Actually, I installed the sling software on a couple win2k pro OS machines and it works fine. I do recall that I had to download some windows media stuff from Microsoft to get things working, but it wasn't much of a problem at all. The XP machine just worked right of the bat, but I don't see any performance differences between them. One of the win2k machines is a 350MHz celeron with only 128MB of ram --- works fine.

Can you try to post what you did to get it to work on the win2k machine? I cant seem to figure it out. I have media player 9 installed and installed the stuff that was in the slingplayer directory. But I cant get it to work.
It was so long ago I can't remember, but I believe I needed to download two things from the Windows win2k download area from Microsoft ... what kind of errors do you get? I think I figured it out when I just took the error number and googled it --- out popped the info on the drivers I needed. Maybe if you describe the error -- it might jog my memory.
According to Slingbox product info page http://www.slingmedia.com/slingbox/ under What I Need / Minimum Requirements / PC Client, Windows 2000 SP4 is supported.
Kyle,
Good catch. I've gone ahead and updated the requirements thanks to your keen eye. This was put up before Sling "officially" supported Windows 2000 SP4.

For some strange reason, whenever i try to install the slingplayer on another computer, the install gets interrupted and never finishes. this happens on my work laptop, work computer and my managers computer. i tried dislodging myself from the domain, stopping SAV services, uninstalling SAV, trying to connect to the same network that my slingbox is on and now i'm doin a disk cleanup to clean the temp files. then i'll manually dump the rest. if anyone has any other suggestions it would be great.
Thanx,
Evan
whats the lowest quality grpahiocs card you can get awayt with for the slingplayer? I'm running an ATI rage MObility 8Mb gfx card - as part of an old dell laptop - any hope - or do I need a new pc?
about a month or so ago i figured it out and got everything working. i just haven't had time to share my info... for those of you trying to install slingplayer on ur computer at work, thats on a DOMAIN, then listen carefully. You CANNOT be joined to a domain to install the software. if u r, then u have a headache on ur hands. to get the software to install properly, this is what i had to do.
1. clear out all temporary and compressed data from the clean disc. then i reset the administrator password just to be sure that i knew what it was so i could log back into the machine.
2 disjoined from the domain.
3. logged in as adminstrator
4. created new user
5. logged in as new user.
6. installed (with no problems.)
7. rejoined to domain.
simple, easy... all u really need to know is how to join and disjoin, have all the passwords or have a good friend in IT.
Have a good day.

My wife's computer has 192 MB of RAM...I rewad on here that it worked with 128MB on someone's, do you think it will work on my wife's 192MB???
It should work, since it still works (latest revision) on my old 128MB machine. Just don't run any other programs or the video can get pretty choppy.
Hello, I'm a computer moron who wants to buy laptop and then buy slingbox. I was told for time warner digital cable i could get the av version of box.(I only need bare minimums.) My biggest problem is that they say i need a pentium iv. It's hard to find those anymore. Can someone tell me what other processors would work with slingbox av? Bare minimums are ok as long as quality is reasonable. I am a basic user and don't need the best. I've been told amd turions are ok along with core duo and dual cores(64x2.) I have also been told mixed things about amd athlons and pentium m's. Finally i've been told amd semprons and intel celerons are lower quality but MIGHT work. Once again i am an idiot. Can someone help me? I want to get out as cheap as possible but still be able to use slingbox. thank you !!!! ps slingbox, for obvious reasons, can only say pentium iv or better but they hinted that sometimes you can use a lower processor and still be ok. thank you!!!!

mr. whitlock, i just posted question to you on the thread you refered me to. thank you!!!!!!
Is it necessary to have a tv provider for the slingbox to work? Or does the slingbox work as a tv provider?

The Slingbox is not a television provider or service. To understand what it does, it's best to think of it like another TV. If you bought an actual television, brought it home, and had nothing to connect to it, you won't be watching anything.
The Slingbox allows you to take your television experience with you, and watch your home TV like you were sitting in front of it on the sofa. It doesn't add anything to that living room experience, it just makes your living room portable. Does that make sense?

IF you can get your hands on a copy of Windows 2000, you'd be all set.

I'm having connectivity problems, as its telling me that No Slingbox is found on my home network, even though I can see that the Slingbox is connected to my Linksys wireless router. I've done everything the help section tells you to do, reset it, checked all cables, etc. I also have disabled all firewall settings. Any suggestions?
