From what I am reading; If I am set up with the Slingbox hooked up to my router and the TV cable source with a splitter, I should have no problem watching my selected shows on my laptop. Is that correct, even with no PC at home?
Installing Your Slingbox (Page 3 of 3)
Categories: PRO A/V Tuner Classic
Install the Software
Install the software from the included CD on your computer and complete the setup wizard. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software on your computer.
Watching Your Programs Remotely
To watch your programs outside of your home network (over the Internet) your router needs to provide access to your Slingbox. Routers control Internet access by using numbered ports. To watch programs remotely, you need to open a port on your router. The security features on most routers prevent access to your Slingbox from outside your home network. To open a port, you need to set up your router for "port forwarding."
To set up your router for port forwarding, you will need to access your router's setup screens. Once there, you will assign a port number for your Slingbox and enter its IP address. You only have to do this once.
To find the IP address for your Slingbox, start the SlingPlayer application, select Slingbox from the Player menu, and then select Properties.
For more information, refer to the documentation that comes with your cable or DSL router and look for port forwarding. You can also see the help topics on the Web site for your particular router. This should give you detailed instructions about how to set up your router so you can watch your Slingbox from anywhere.
Advanced Connections
Here are some additional ways to connect your Slingbox that aren't covered in the Quick Setup Guide. Since the Slingbox has a built-in tuner (the Antenna/Cable input) you can take advantage of using a single cable to deliver your television source to the Slingbox. If Your TV has a VHF/UHF Input Only
If the incoming antenna or cable TV source is connected directly to your television, add a cable splitter, with one output going to your TV and the other connected to the Antenna/Cable In plug on the Slingbox. By doing this you don't have to remove the cable going directly to your television. If Your Cable/Satellite Box or DVR Does Not Have Available Audio/Video Outputs
If your cable/satellite box or DVR does not have available audio/video outputs but does have an Antenna/Cable Output, you can use the supplied coaxial cable to connect your television source to the Slingbox. You can also use a cable splitter if you'd rather not disconnect and reconnect existing cables.
A/V Receiver Connections
If you have an A/V receiver in your entertainment system, including the Slingbox is easy. From the outputs on your A/V receiver, connect an audio/video cable or S-Video cable along with the red and white A/V connectors to the compatible inputs on the Slingbox.

Correct. Having a computer at home is not required. All that's needed is the Slingbox, a source, and a client. You'll need to have your laptop on your network for first time setup.

That will give you an overview of how Finder IDs work, which is how SlingPlayer can connect to your Slingbox from outside your network.
