Why is There a TV Out on the Slingbox?

Even with the Slingbox's sleek size, Sling Media has packed in several ways to connect the Slingbox to your gear. Many of the hookups on the Slingbox are relatively straightforward, however the AV OUT feature may not be as intuitive.

Many home theater devices have more than one audio/video output on the back, making it easy to connect it to the TV and Slingbox simultaneously. However, there are many devices that are only capable of connecting to one device at a time, and it is in these cases where the AV OUT becomes an important feature.

If connecting the Slingbox to a device with only one active output, first disconnect the source device from the TV or home theater system. Then connect the source device to the AV INPUT on the back of the Slingbox. Lastly, connect the cable from the AV OUT on the back of the Slingbox back into the TV or home theater system as it was before.

In this setup, the Slingbox will pass the picture and sound on to the TV, allowing the device with only one output to be connected to both the Slingbox and home system simultaneously, and all without the need for additional hardware.
