Get Your IP Address by Using Your Finder ID
Categories: Computers / Laptops / Netbooks Networking & Connectivity
Ok, so some of you might require having access to your IP address (for example, for remote connecting to your router) - if your IP address is dynamic this could prove a problem as it will always be changing!
Sling Media offers a service called Finder ID which turns your Finder ID (which uniquely identifies your Slingbox) to your home IP address!
To access your IP address simply:
- Connect to your Slingbox
- Go to "start" button
- Click "Run"
- Type "cmd.exe" (an MS-DOS box will pop up)
- Type "netstat"
TCP andy-r2j6obea30:2065 host86-129-225-78.range86-129.btcentralplus.com:https ESTABLISHED
The "host86-129-225-78.range86-129.btcentralplus.com" bit is your hostname - which can be used as an IP address - or if you want the exact IP address, you can type "ping hostname (where hostname is your hostname from netstat)" at the MS-DOS prompt.
eg.
ping host86-129-225-78.range86-129.btcentralplus.com
You will have something that looks like this:
Pinging host86-129-225-78.range86-129.btcentralplus.com [86.129.225.78] with 32 bytes of data
The number in the square brackets is your IP address.
