How To Create Your Own SlingPlayer Remote (Page 5 of 5)

Step 4 - Adding a Custom Remote Control to SlingPlayer/Slingbox

4.1: Open your SlingPlayer and connect to your slingbox

4.2: Go to Slingbox | Properties | Slingbox Configuration -> you will see 'audio / video setup' click the 'change' button -> click next until you reach the remote control settings page.

4.3: Select what type of device you have

4.4: Select other (not in list)

4.5: You will see a page like this. If you have a bin file (eg Y1280_JU.bin) you can enter Y1280 into the alternative code and hit next ;) (make sure you have the .bin file in the SBAV folder).

Please, can you email me a WORKING BIN file that I can just dump in the SBAV folder, select in the setting wizard, and go on with life?

Thank you very much.

Thanx Andy,

your post on creating your on remote and using it for Slinging is great! I have successfully managed to use your post to create a bin file for my PVR (TheBox). You are a star Andy and people like you make life easier for others not so gifted. keep up the good work and I am sure I speak for others in saying we all appreciate your efforts.

A word of advice to others- if you test your bin file and it doesn't work try a different number in the setup code (in remote master) and save the bin file again for trial, i tried two numbers before getting the one that works. This might explain why bin files I got from others didn't work. It you find that the bin file you got did not work ask for the rmdu file instead. with that you can download remotemaster, open the rmdu file, and try a few setup codes for that rmdu file. its pretty straight foward and easy.

I've followed the instructions to the letter and I must be doing something wrong.
Setup.bat doesn't do anything except enter something to the registry.
I've got as far as Layout in Remotemaster but there is no picture of a remote control there. What's gone wrong?

September 3, 2008 5:58 PM

I didn't use setup.bat at all, I couldn't find it. After creating your remote and testing it to make sure it works the way you want just open remotemaster and copy the OBCs from Ir.exe to each function in remotemaster. To be honest, I had trouble in bringing up the Slingbox remote in layout I had to try several times. Even when it finally popped up i dont think i had done anything different! Just try to uninstall and reinstall remotemaster and try downloading the images folder again just in case the first download was infected, corrupt or something. these are the things i tried. as long as you are obtaining the learned codes from the remote and they correspond with the remote you made, there shouldnt be anything wrong with the OBCs you are transfering to remotemaster.

must say the trouble i had in two days to create the remote and get the slingbox to work was well worth it, slingmaster rocks! good luck mate.

Thanks for your reply.
I ran the prog on my netbook and got the popups for folders. I got the remote an assigned all my commandsexcept one which comes up as a different protocol (I've no idea what to do about that)to the buttons and saved the rv file ok.
The next problem is how to get the jp1 remote into the slingbox.
All I get is the basic remote from the slingbox and not the jp1.
I have no ideas further.

if you have created your rv file you are good to go. just place the file in the SBAV folder as instructed, follow instructions in section 4 to reconfigure your Slingbox. The real test is on item 4.4, that is when you find out if your file works or not. If your file is picked up by Slingbox your code should turn off your cablebox/pvr/tv. If it doesnt work go back to item 3.2 and change the setup code. You may need to Change this number several times until you find a unique number that works for you- i think if the number is not unique this may prevent your file from working. I recommend that before you export your bin file (from remotemaster), click on file and saveas and save the file to my documents. The file that is saved at this stage is an rmdu file not bin file. but in remotemaster you can open this file again and again to try different setup Codes that I referred to i.e section 3.2 but this will save you time. It seems there are four different types of bin files that you can export at the end, how did you know your slinybox uses the rv version? If not sure just export all four since it doesn't take you any extra effort- it might Save you from making a time consuming error!

good luck

@ Montreal
I've got everything to work for me in a roundabout way.
Number 4 on the remote still insists its a jvc protocol rather tha nec 1 but thats no matter.
The template remote in remotemaster I cannot recreate in the silngbox and no matter what exit will not match exit on the sling remote so I matched it with a different button.
It works for me but I cannot publish it for everybody as I only know what each button does.
The remotemaster JP1 kwin template works but I cant transfer it to the Slingbox.

I don't know why you need the JP1 template mate- I must be missing Something. I thought you only need the sling box template because its the one that can work with the slingbox rdfs but I may be wrong. When I created mine I just followed instructions 1 to 5 and there is no reference to a JP template there. I also had a similar button problem in that I could not get the OBC for the record button when I was "learning" my remote but I can do without it for now (if anybody knows how to get around this problem please help). In remote master as long as you allocate the correct OBC to your exit button or indeed any other button I would imagine it should work but i cant say for sure.

going back to to your JP1 template are you trying to create another remote for a different cablebox/Pvr/etc? if thats the case you should use the slingbox remote again but use a diffent set-up code to the first remote you created. Slingbox allows you to add another slingbox profile for another box allowing you to watch say sat TV or cable for example if you have both (you just have to move you ir sensor to the box you want to watch. when you open slingbox you will find a button that says "add". if you follow that it should allow you to setup another box the same way you did with the first.

@ montreal
I think you misunderstand what i'm after.
I'll post when I'm less tired.
Maybe i expect too much.I put the command I nwanted in the remote master template.
All I want to do is put my remote into sling.
My rv file works in sling but their remote hasnt all the buttons.
BTW I cannot map my exit command to the exit button it'll work on any other button except exit

Hi Andy,
Great article. I have a 8x1 video switcher I want to control. I already have the codes that are used in the remote controller. Do I need all the tools you have listed or is there another way to make the bin file?
Thanks for your time.
Have a GREAT DAY!

Hi TVMICK

I think i have the same trouble as you. I have created a bin file for my Hivion
sat box. All works fine in slingbox except i can't map the exit key. I can set the ir code to anyother key but nothing will map to the exit key.

Has anybody else had this problem or solved it, as i'm going nuts here.

Kind Regards to all

hi

If I have a Logitech 525 Harmony learning remote. Is there anyway way I can use the RM software and use my Logitech to learn and generate the Bin file?

October 24, 2008 10:05 AM

I don't know of any conversion from the Harmony remote files to a BIN file. I think you have to use a JP1 type remote.

  • When asking for setup help please include whether you are using a PC or Mac and
  • if you are using the Standalone Slingplayer or the web based setup program.

    Hi

I am trying to get a URC-8910. but I cant find it anymore can a URC-8820 do the job? also can I use a connector that is USB and not serial?

    November 24, 2008 12:07 AM

I found that my SlingboxPro (Not HD) required me to select the Slingbox with RV chip option.

Using 1.5.1 of the software (as it doesn't cause firewall issues by trying to talk to Sling from an internal corporate network like V2 does) I was able to get codes working with the RV setting.

Incase it helps others to clarify...in RemoteMaster I used the setup code 1234 (for some reason high numbers like 0888 etc caused weird behaviors) and exported a bin file to the SAV directory.

Using the Sling setup utility I selected DVR/Other and typed the code auto generated by Remote Master as the filename...ie S1234 (I didn't need to type the

Yes, thanks to pp 4-5 of this article and DigStrm-6131_std.rmdu posted on the JP1 site I was able to add the DigitalStream stb to a Pro. Thanks, Andy.
