Notebook Media Button Customization for Slingbox Control
Categories: Computers / Laptops

1) Download and install IntelliType Pro 5.5 app from Microsoft which installs a handy volume readback for the mute/volume up & down media buttons.
Note: When asked what keyboard type you are installing, just pick the Natural Multimedia Keyboard or similar for support of the media buttons.
2) Download and install KeyTweak Keyboard Remapper, which also is freeware.
3) Configure KeyTweak to remap the previous and next track media buttons to control NumPad - and NumPad + in order to change channels on the SlingPlayer. Save and exit.
4) Now under control panel/Keyboard/Keysettings, configure the stop media button to exit the active program. This will close the SlingPlayer window when needed.
5) Also, configure the play/pause media button to launch the SlingPlayer app from it's location on your hard drive.
Sweet! You are all set now that all the media buttons control certain aspects of the SlingPlayer app.
This configuration works great for me while watching TV on the overhead projector via S-video out at work with the notebook lid closed. I can still raise/decrease volume and mute along with change channels up/down and launch/exit the slingplayer software all from the front-panel media buttons!
