Two issues:

1. During installation of the upgrade, Norton AntiVirus 2005 reports a Malicious Script warning (because of file system operations in the install script) and halts the activity. Instructing NAV to allow the operation continues installation as expected. Happens several times.

2. Video Tuning Wizard started when I launched the new SlingPlayer but reported that Advanced Video Options are disabled on my computer. My Hardware Acceleration setting is Full, and my PC meets the minimum system requirements (OS is Windows 2000 SP4). I continued anyway, and the video quality looks OK. Is there a way I can figure out what it thinks is disabled?

I installed the new software. The text above says that there is a firmware update. But firmware update is grayed out. How do I install the new firmware, please?

March 12, 2006 8:16 PM

I had the same problem "malicious script warning" when installing the new upgrade. But once allowed, the install went ok.
The problem that I do have is after finishing the video tuning wizard I realized that the picture was too grainy. How do I get back into the tuning wizard to detune my selections?

Click on Slingbox, then Properties, then Slingbox Configuration, then Audio/Video Settings.

That's not the one, the one I mean is where you choose between two color bar test patterns, and 2 video clips to determine which one is clearer.

March 12, 2006 10:29 PM

I thought that would get you to the color bar test patterns, but you are right, it doesn't. I just tried it. All I can think of is to re-install the new software. I assume that will once again take you thru the color bar test patterns. If you do, please note what it says about re-doing the test patterns and post the info here. Re how to re-do them. I seem to recall that it mentioned that, but I do not recall how it said to re-do them.

Beetle & Gordy,
You have to stop the SlingPlayer first. Then under Help on the menu bar, choose Video Tuning Wizard.

Gordy,
You were correct. I just had to uninstall the upgrade, and then during the (re) install I automatically got the color bar test patterns and video clips allowing me to choose which I thought was clearer. (by the way, on my home wireless network I am streaming between 1520 & 1585 Kbps after the upgrade. Before the upgrade it was 850 to 915)

Is there any benefit to installing the firmware if I don't plan to use any of the mobile devices that the description indicates is the reason to upgrade.

I'm happy with the recent .140 software upgrade but don't want to mess with the firmware.

Quick question, I am overseas right now. Do I have to be on my home network to do the upgrade? As I understand it the firmware upgrades cannot be done remotely.

I've been having a successful sling experience since July and all has been great until I upgraded to the latest version of software. On both my desktop and laptop I'm able to access the slingplayer but I have no remote control. I've updated the sling firmware, but I can't for the life of me get the remotes to work....nothing has changed other than software/firmware. Any ideas?

If you are thinking about going to version 1.0.5.140, you might want to hold off a bit. I was running 1.0.5.127 with no problems. After I upgraded to 1.0.5.140 and the new firmware I lost the 3 buttons on the top right to my Direct TV Tivo remote, and my connection never works the first time. I have to stop it and start it again to connect.

Ironically, I had the same missing button problem with the version just prior to 1.0.5.127...whatever that was.

Anyone else having this problem?

RD Willis, this may be a stupid response, but have you tried Alt-R or click View and Show Remote Control?

I solved my problem. I stopped Pc-cillin 2006's firewall and started the XP firewall (for some protection while Pc-cillin's firewall was stopped). Then I was able to update the firmware. And Network Settings and Update Firmware were no longer grayed out. I believe I upgraded PC-cillin from 2005 to 2006 since the last time I upgraded firmware. Something must have changed in its firewall, which disabled my access to Network Settings and Update Firmware. Hope this helps someone else.
After updating the firmware, I started PC-cillin's firewall and stopped the XP firewall and all is well. SlingPlayer works, but Network Settings and Update Firmware are once again grayed out.

I've got the same problem. Unable to update to firmware v1.0.63 bc it is greyed out. How to install firmware? No one has checked this since march? that's sucky slingin' if you axe me.

slingin' it here, slingin' it there slingin' it high slingin' it low slingin' it any where I go.

sam,

Have you tried stopping your firewall, then start SlingPlayer and see if you can update the firmware?

All

I have the same problem with the "grayed out" remote.  I can't change channels.  I only have the live feed.  As I live in China the sling is my lifeline and it is making me crazy.  It's frustrating as the stupid remote worked before.  I have the comcast motorola dvr.  The last version before 140 showed a duplicate remote that worked fine.  Now it doesn't.  Has anyone been able to find out what the issue is.

Gordy,

I have the same problem with the firware update grayed out.  It wasn't grayed out until I upgraded the player on my computer.  I tried installing on another machine as well, same problem.  FYI - The new version doesn't recognize any boxes on my network either.  It did on the older version.

FYI - The box is in my office.   Also, I'm not using the default port...

*UPDATE *

In my frustration I downloaded the newer beta and installed that and was able to do the update.

So now the mobile software for Pocket PC errors on my Treo 700W.  I installed the beta of the Smartphone version and that works, sometimes...

Anyone have a Treo 700W using it to connect to their Slingbox?

When I try to go to full screen mode and click the pin sideways the borders for the player will not auto hide.  Anyone know what the problem could be.

What exactly is the newest firmware? Mine is showing 1.0.86 in information screen, 30-08-2006

I downloaded the Slingplayer for mobile and can't seem to connect to my Slingbox with my PocketPC Axim X51v.
