The Slingbox AV Review (Page 1 of 4)

Out of all Sling Media’s new products, the Slingbox AV is the model poised for mainstream acceptance, giving folks that use a cable/satellite box, TiVo, or other external device an easy way to get on the place-shifting bandwagon. The AV was designed to give single device users a quick and easy Slingbox to help get them up and slinging in a flash.

The AV hardware differs from the original Slingbox by the fact that it lacks an internal tuner, which makes sense for customers that subscribe to digital cable/satellite services and anyone that relies on a DVR to time-shift television. The AV is compatible with the majority of consumer gear, allowing the user to watch and control their device from anywhere in the world.

Like the Slingbox Tuner, the AV is about 2/3rd the size of the original Slingbox. While the look has improved compared to the original (thank you for removing the MY TV ANYWHERE ANYTIME print from the top of the box), it’s still a little “out there” looking compared to the rest of your gear. Fortunately, the smaller footprint makes it a little easier to hide. If you don’t want it in plain view, feel free to bury it behind your gear rather than set it on top (though keep in mind you won’t be able to see the power, network, and Sling indicators).
