SlingPlayer for Mac Public Beta Review (Page 7 of 9)

Slingbox Menu

The Slingbox Menu brings up the options for the Slingbox Directory, remote control menus, control mode, video input, and the Get Info window for the Slingbox.

The Get Info window brings up the dialog box for the configuration of the Slingbox itself. There’s a connection tab where your Slingbox Alias can be changed, the Finder ID is listed along with connection password, and direct connection options.

The Slingbox configuration tab allows you to adjust the settings of the Slingbox: passwords, A/V inputs, Networks Settings, Update firmware. Selecting any of these will launch and take you to the Slingbox Setup Assistant. While one can run the Setup Assistant by launching it from the Finder as described earlier, the options in the Slingbox Configuration tab take you specifically in the Assistant to just the items you are interested in modifying - so you don’t have to run through the entire Assistant from start to finish just to change your A/V inputs. Additionally, this is the only place currently where the user is able to update the firmware on the Slingbox.

Finally, there’s the Info tab that loads and displays the current configuration information on the Slingbox.

Help Menu

Last, there is a Help Menu, which is not functional as this article is being written. If help is selected, a dialog box appears telling the user that help is not available. This should be fixed by the time the software is released.
