How To Run SlingPlayer on Linux OS (Page 3 of 4)

2.) Installing Slingplayer Software

Download the version of SlingPlayer you use (for me it was the UK version 1.3.0.127). See the link above for where to download the software from. Once downloaded, you will need to install the software via Wine. In the terminal type Wine [path to file] .

Tip: To get the path to file, drag and drop the file into the terminal window.

If everything goes to plan you should be able to install the SlingPlayer software as you would normally! Follow the steps and make sure you install the Windows Media Player when prompted on the installation screen. The program will exit with the error message 'MSXML3 is required for using this software'. At this point, click OK to ignore the message.

3.) Installing wine 0.9.26

Open the System Monitor (System > Adminstration > System Monitor), right click on both idriver.exe, and select Kill process. This is a bug with the installer process; it won't exit the idriver file and it needs to be terminated so the new version of wine can install successfully without having a file in use. If SlingPlayer.exe is in the list, also kill that process (but only after you receive the msxml3 warning).

Download Wine 0.9.26 Ubunty 6.10 i386

Locate and run the file you have downloaded. Install it, and type wine –version in the terminal. Hopefully, it will now say wine 0.9.26.

4.) Getting rid of the msxml3 Error

Download the SlingPlayer Dependencies package from SlingCommunity.com.

Locate and extract the files. In there you will see msxml3.dll and msxml3r.dll. You will need to copy these files to your system32 folder.

The folder can be located in /home/[username]/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32

There are two ways you can copy these files: you can either use the GUI (in which case you will need to unhide all hidden files since .wine is hidden ... View > Show all Hidden files) or you can use the terminal.

Now you will need to register the dll's. In terminal type wine [path to regsrv32.exe] [path to msxml3.dll], which will register the dll.

Now, in the Terminal type winecfg it will show a new application. On this application hit the libraries tab. Add msxml3 and make it strictly native! (check screenshot below if you're unsure)

This will now load our msxml files rather than using the built in Wine ones, which should remove the msxml problems.
