The Top 10 Most Wanted SlingPlayer Features (Page 2 of 3)

Number 4 - Recording
Here’s another one of them “controversial” topics, but it’s clear that recording is a feature that folks want… even me. There are times when Internet access just won’t be available (like on a plane), and you’re going to have some time to kill. Having the ability to record a show to your PC from your Slingbox ahead of time would be a welcome feature when getting online just isn’t possible.
So far the “live only, one to one” connection of the Slingbox to SlingPlayer has kept the Slingbox safe from most legal scrutiny. Recording would be a feature that could be abused (seedy people raise your hand), but there’s got to be a way to make recorded SlingPlayer files not playable on any SlingPlayer but your own. Here’s hoping those Sling geniuses put on some thinking caps and noodle it for a little while.
Number 5 - Live Buffer
Numbers 5 and 6 are for all you basic cable and antenna folks out there. Pausing live TV isn’t a problem for folks that use Slingbox with a TiVo or other DVR, but what about those poor Tuner, Classic, and PRO folks that are stuck watching a show on basic cable or antenna because they have no choice, or because the spouse is hogging the DVR.
People are only human, and that means people have to do things like take phone calls, use the bathroom, order pizza, and hide SlingPlayer from their boss. Unfortunately, this means that if you were in the middle of a show, you’re going to miss it. A live buffer would ensure that those without a set-top can answer nature’s call without missing part of a show. Even if we can never record shows, a non-accessible, instantaneously dropped buffer when you hit the remote or close the player would be a welcome feature.
Number 6 - Electronic Program Guide
I almost forgot what it was like not having an EPG until I got SlingPlayer. Like most with only one DVR or set-top box (or everyone with the Tuner model), if the spouse is watching a show, then you're stuck with regular cable. The problem… we don’t know what’s on! Okay, it’s reasonable to conclude that using SlingPlayer means you have Internet access, so you could just go to TV Guide or TitanTV to see what’s on. Seriously, I have to go to another site to see what’s on? That’s so late 90s.
We’re nearing the end of the decade… no one should have to barbarically change channels or look at another site to see what’s on. Help support the cure to mindless channel surfing… integrate an EPG into SlingPlayer.
Number 7 - Clip+Sling
This is a feature that’s coming, but it’s one I’ve been looking forward to since it was announced at CES. The idea that I can grab a clip that tickles my funny bone or a great sports play that must be seen to be believed, and post it somewhere for the world to see in a few short clicks is a really cool concept.
Some folks question its value, but over the past months I’ve seen some interesting, funny, or amazing things that I would have loved to share with friends and family if given the option. This can’t come soon enough…
