SlingPlayer 2.0 Video Demonstration - 2008 International CES

Since June of 2005, SlingPlayer has carried the 1.n moniker, but after an initial slew of major upgrades, the software hasn't received any "major" consumer facing revisions since the move to 1.4 some time ago. Now at 1.5, it looks like the next major overhaul, expected sometime early this year, is going to bring a significant number of upgrades, including an integrated EPG, Clip+Sling, 60 minute buffer to pause and rewind streams, and more - enough to move that version number from 1.5 to 2.0.

Sling Media's Dave Zatz was kind enough to secure a private location during the show to give the SlingCommunity a full preview of some of the things SlingPlayer 2.0 has to offer. Click the play button below to view.

Maybe it's a stupid question, but how does the 60 minute buffer work if I am streaming my content from a dvr?  Do I just put the slingplayer on pause for an hour and let it build up the buffer?  I would be willing to do that some of the time if it would get rid of the stuttering I currently get but I am not sure I would be that patient if I just wanted to flip through some programs to see what is on...

Um, FOR THE PC? HOW ABOUT THE MAC?

It would be great if there were a linux client. If support is a concern, just keep it in an eternal beta with no support. Closed source, I don't care.

Yeah, here's a question:  When the hell is it finally going to be released?

The 60-minute buffer is a KILLER feature and this needs to be released YESTERDAY!!

From Wikipedia:

Vaporware is a software or hardware product which is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge, either with or without a protracted development cycle. The term implies unwarranted optimism, or sometimes even deception; that is, it may imply that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility.

There is a totally free Slingbox player and recorder already at mReplay.  You can watch, control, record, edit and share your Slingbox.... all from a browser.

My favorite function is the "back in time" recording... where if you see something cool, you can click the 30 or 60 second buttons and save the last 30 or 60 seconds of video... it's been great during the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.

It's very light weight and getting better every week.
