I was very excited to buy the slingbox pro (even did some extra wiring in my house to accommodate it). Then I saw that they want an extra fee for software. I can not understand why the company would want to sell phone software for the slingbox when it is the only thing that the software is for. No one will buy your software unless they buy your hardware first. I will not buy your $400 HD slingbox because you want the extra $30 for phone software.
Selling software separate to your hardware is acceptable when it is not exclusive to you. The way you have it now is the customer will either not buy the hardware (like me) or they will be mad when they have to pay extra to make it do what it is suppose to do when they bought it.
This is just poor business practice.
