Using the SlingPlayer Progam Guide to Easily Find and Change Channels

The SlingPlayer Guide is an easy way for you to see what's on. It's an interactive guide, customized specifically for the program sources (satellite, cable, or digital over-the-air) in your area.

With the SlingPlayer Guide, you can:

  • See what's on right now
  • See what'll be on in the future
  • Get a quick summary of program info
  • Switch to that program

The SlingPlayer Guide is a grid that uses columns to represent program times, and rows to show the programs for each channel. The left-most column shows the programs that are on right now. (The SlingPlayer Guide automatically advances every half hour.) You can also set up Favorites, which are the channels that you like to watch most often.

You can change channels any of three ways:

  • Double-clicking the show that you want to see in the SlingPlayer Guide. (If the program hasn't started yet, you'll get a message telling you.)
  • Using SlingRemote
  • Pressing the channel numbers on your computer's keyboard.

With the SlingPlayer Guide, you'll always know what's on ... now, and in the future.

To search for programs: With the SlingPlayer Guide window open, just start typing the first few characters of what you're searching for. SlingPlayer Guide jumps to the listing closest to what you typed.

Here's what else you can do with the SlingPlayer Guide:

Will this service include Toronto Canada eventually?

What do you do if you notice one single channel is missing from the guide?

September 12, 2008 9:03 AM

The information come from Zap2It so they must have missed something. I would go to their website and try the browser search for the same thing and see if it comes up missing. If so you could notify them.

  • if you are using the Standalone Slingplayer or the web based setup program.

Strange, no program guide in the Canadian version, but I can view Canadian channel lineups in my zap2it.com account with no problems. I hope it's there in the 2.0 final version.

I've been using the new SlingPlayer 2.0 beta for a while. I have to say, while the player is great, and the guide is a nice addition, it's also missing a LOT of channels.

The guide for Austin's Time Warner is missing about 50% of the HD channels and untold SD channels (I haven't even bothered to try to count those).

Sling, you need to get with the ZAP guys and get the guide in sync with the actual list of available programs otherwise it's usefulness is very limited.

    Yes, This would be great.

When 2.0 was first release the program guide was really buggy and no one liked it.  But it looks to me they corrected some of the problems and may be worth a second look by some people.
