What is a SlingCatcher?
A SlingCatcher is Sling Media's newest technology product. Unlike Slingbox, which lets users stream your home TV devices to connected clients, SlingCatcher displays Slingbox streams and other types of digital video to a television set.
What do I use one for?
SlingCatcher's three included applications allow users to display a variety of digital video on a television set. Whatever the source, be it a cable box or streaming videos from your favorite website like Hulu or Sling.com, SlingCatcher brings it all to your TV.
SlingPlayer for TV let's users connect to a Slingbox and display the Slingbox stream on another TV, which is perfect for those who want to watch their living room cable box on the bedroom TV.
Do I have to have a Slingbox to use SlingCatcher?
No, you can use the SlingProjector and My Media features without owning a Slingbox. A Slingbox is required to use SlingPlayer for TV.
What is SlingPlayer for TV?
SlingPlayer for TV let's users connect to a Slingbox and display the Slingbox stream on another TV, which is perfect for those who want to watch their living room cable box on the bedroom TV.
What is SlingProjector?
SlingProjector allows users to shift video content playable on a PC screen to your television. For example, you can open a web video player (like YouTube), select it using projector, and watch it on your TV screen.
What is My Media?
My Media lets users connect a storage drive to SlingCatcher and play compatible audio and video files on the connected television.
What kind of TVs is the SlingCatcher compatible with?
SlingCatcher is compatible with analog and high-definition televisions sporting an external input for composite, S-Video, component video, or HDMI connections.
How do I connect the SlingCatcher to my TV?
The SlingCatcher connects to a television just like your DVD player, Blu-Ray player, or modern video game console. Simply connect one of the 4 video outputs to a like input on your television, then connect either the analog or digital audio connections to the same input on the TV or to your home audio system. Using the audio outputs is not necessary for HDMI connections if sound will be listened to on the TV.
How do I watch my Slingbox on my TV?
From the main menu of the SlingCatcher, choose SlingPlayer for TV. If both the Slingbox and SlingCatcher are located on the same network, your SlingCatcher will discover the Slingbox(es) automatically. Select the Slingbox you wish to view, and enter your viewing or admin password. If trying to connect to a Slingbox on a different network, you'll need to add your Slingbox to your Sling Account. You can add it using SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows, or by updating your Sling Account online. When finished adding your Slingbox to your Sling Account, log out of your account on the SlingCatcher, then log back in to update the Slingbox list.
What kinds of external storage devices can I connect to my SlingCatcher?
The SlingCatcher is compatible with virutally all USB hard drives and flash drives formatted in the FAT32 file system. The SlingCatcher will not read NTFS, HFS+, or other file systems.
What audio and video formats will the SlingCatcher play?
SlingCatcher supports many video and audio file formats, including the following:
· Video: WMV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, Xvid.
· Audio: MP2, MP3, WMA, AAC, AC3. PCM.
· File formats: .avi, .vob, .ifo, ps., .ts, .mpg, .wmv, .asf, .mov, .mp4, .m4v, .mp3, .wma, .mp4a, .m4a, .wav.

How do I use SlingProjector?
In order to use SlingProjector, you'll need to install the SlingProjector software on a Windows computer running Windows XP SP2 or higher, or Windows Vista. The latest version of the SlingProjector software can be found here. Once the SlingProjector software is installed, connect to your SlingCatcher by pressing the center "Connect to SlingCatcher" button, then click the "Project entire screen" or "Project window" button to get started. If you select "Project window, you will need to highlight or select the area of the screen you wish to view on your TV.
Is the SlingCatcher compatible with Macs?
SlingPlayer for TV and My Media (when used with a FAT32 formatted external drive) are not dependent on any operating system. SlingProjector is currently only compatible with Windows computers running Windows Vista or Windows XP SP2 or greater.
What are the minimum requirements for SlingCatcher?
The minimum requirements for using SlingCatcher are noted below:
- A TV that supports any of: 480i (NTSC), 576i (PAL/SECAM), 480p*, 576p*, 720p*, or 1080i* (Note: SlingCatcher supports streaming from any Slingbox regardless of input video format)
- A broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable modem)
- Home network
Can I watch programs in High Definiton from my Slingbox PRO HD using SlingCatcher?
SlingCatcher does let you watch HDTV programs from the Slingbox PRO-HD, however the SlingCatcher does not currently support HD quality playback. HDTV programs will be streamed and displayed at standard definition resolutions.
What are the output resolutions of SlingCatcher?
The SlingCatcher can output 480i/576i from all outputs. 480p/576p, 720p, and 1080i resolutions can be output from the component video and HDMI connections.
How do I set up a Sling Account?
You can create a Sling Account using SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows, or by setting up a Sling Account online.
How do I update the SlingCatcher software (firmware)?
To check for and install software updates for the SlingCatcher, select Software Update from the Settings menu.
Select "Check for Update", then select Yes to download and install the updated software. The download may take some time, so don’t start it if you have to leave your house in a minute or so.
Importat: DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR SLINGCATCHER WHILE THE UPDATE IS IN PROGRESS. YOU MAY DAMAGE YOUR SLINGCATCHER IF YOU DO.
What is privacy mode on Sling projector and how does it work?
The SlingProjector Privacy mode allows you to quickly pause any video that is currently being sent to the SlingCatcher (you know in case something... innappropriate... appears on the screen). To engage privacy mode, press the Privacy Mode button on the SlingProjector control pad, or press F7.
What do all the lights on the SlingCatcher mean?
SlingCatcher has three different light indicators, one for power and network, and the other within the Sling logo. Here's what they all mean:
- All lights off: Standby mode
- Power and Sling logo lights turning on and off: normal startup
- Network light on: Your SlingCatcher is connected to the network
- Network light is off: Your SlingCatcher is not connected to the network.
