It'll be good, but I'm not that impressed since AppleTV had this ability since day one. The ability to stream HD from the Slingbox PRO-HD will be good, since the quality right now is terrible. What happened to the ability to connect to sling.com. I thought that was first on the list?
Sling Media Shows SlingCatcher HD and Network Streaming - 2009 International CES
Categories: News, Rumors and Gossip SlingCatcher Networking & Connectivity
While it seems like only yesterday, it's already been a year since Sling Media's Matt Feinstein gave us an early look at SlingCatcher during the 2008 CES show. The Catcher may look a lot different these days (hardware aside, the UI is entirely different from last year's demo), but Sling Media's making up some ground by showing off new, long-anticipated SlingCatcher features: HD streaming from the Slingbox PRO-HD and network file streaming.
Take it away Matt...
HD streaming from a PRO HD may not drastically alter what your SlingCatcher currently does for you, but it should make watching those HD channels a whole lot nicer. It's tough to tell in the video, but in person, the image quality from the PRO HD to SlingCatcher was noticeably improved. Word on the street is this update will provide up to 720p video using VC-1, while a second update may bring full 1080i streaming via MPEG 2. More on this as we hear more.
What will add a whole new level of Sling goodness is the ability to stream media from network shares. Consolidating photos, videos, and music to a single shared source, like a shared folder on a PC or networked attached storage (NAS) device, is becoming an increasinly common practice. Making that content available to SlingCatcher without having to move it to a locally attached storate device will be extremely convenient, particularly for those who don't already have a Windows Media Extender or other digital media receiver.
Look for these great improvements to hit your SlingCatcher sometime in the first quarter.

This will really make the SlingCatcher great, but first we need the Pro-HD here in the UK. When SlingMedia when ?
I'm no expert (EXSPURT), because an "EX" is a has been and a "SPURT" is a drip under pressure.
Also, when will the Pro-HD work with a Mac?
Indeed when will Sling stop treating Mac users as second class citizens?
Any idea why they are taking HD streaming in steps? If the box has the abilities, why not just do it?
Actually, that is probably a bad way to say it. The stream already can exist from a Pro-HD. It's more a matter of displaying the stream in HD.

I don't claim to be a development expert, but based on some conversations with those working on the SlingCatcher, it's not 'that' easy. However, I'll agree they can be a bit on the overcautious, slow side.
Besides, I know they do try to thoroughly test things and make sure stuff lives up to their strict guidelines for quality and performance. They're not always perect, but when they jump the gun and release things that aren't 'perfect' everyone seems to jump down their throat.... at least more so than people do when waiting.

Well, from reading the forums, if it's not perfect, people will complain and if they move too slowly, people will complain. They really, can't win.
I'm not saying, I'm any better. I want it now and tomorrow is too late. lol
If they can actually do the things in the first post, I'll probably buy a second `Catcher.

I've just got a couple of SlingCatchers, I expected they'd already have network support... they don't of course!
Do we know when we can expect network streaming to be available in the UK?
