As far as WiFi at work, most companies don't allow just anyone wandering within WiFi range to access the service, for obvious network security reasons. Even if the network appears "Open", your IT Dept may still require WiFi authorization and login password for employees to access.

Anyone with bad intentions could otherwise sneak into a corporate network's back door and access the physical network, data servers and employee PCs. I am sure they also would not allow employees Slinging since it can be a bandwidth hog.

Thanks for responding Jeff. Yes slinging at work could result in me looking for a new job. I'm just testing it everywhere I go. There must be some extra protection at work because my iphone has the wifi password programmed in and the settings indicate that I'm fully connected. It's just puzzling how the wifi bars don't show up and my sling player tries to run on edge. Perhaps the Tricker ThreeG program has something to do with it. Dunno, just seems odd...

If you have connected b4 at work, it should still work fine. Try turning WiFi off and back on again. See what happens then.

I just received an email from directv offering streaming video of NFL sunday ticket games on the iphone or ipod touch. How funny this is considering they don't want to let us stream video over their network. (AT&T)...........

Hard to predict, but if you have sprint or verizon, their online data usage reporting is pretty immediate. you could run the thing an hour, and then recheck it, figuring out how much you have used.?

Hey, Dan:

Most carriers limit streaming video to 15 fps at 320 x 240 or maybe a little wider for widescreen. Back in the day when I used Sprint unlimited data plan to sling video, it streamed about 230k per second so you can do the math.

60 seconds x 230k = 13.8 megabytes per minute

60 minutes = 828 megabytes

6 hours = 4,968 megabytes (nearly 5 gigs)

So I believe your mileage would be about 6 hours of video.

Not sure what my current iPhone data rate is for streaming video over 3G like MLB or YouTube, I'll have to try to measure it. I know over WiFi it's a speed demon.
