SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone / iPod Touch Review (Page 2 of 4)

Menus and Configuration

If you are not logged into Sling Accounts but go to the main SlingPlayer Mobile Menu, you have the following choices:  settings, connect, login and help.

Settings - Going into settings allows you to specify the following items:

  • Home channel: This is a totally new feature for any SlingPlayer version. Setting this to a particular channel will cause the Slingbox to tune to that channel whenever you connect.
  • Automatically Connect - speaks for itself
  • Audio settings. These are:
                                          - Stereo
                                          - High Quality Audio (higher bitrate)
                                          - Play Right Audio Channel
                                          - Play Left Audio Channel
  • Auto Send "Select" - This setting is for DISH users and the "select" button is automatically sent after remote commands.
  • Privacy Policy - New to SlingPlayer for iPhone is the ability for Sling Media to collect anonymous information about your streaming. This is designed to help improve the product in the future. You can opt to enable this reporting or disable it.

Connect - Touching this w/o being logged in brings up the menu allowing you to manually enter Slingbox information.  You can either enter the Slingbox Finder ID or if you turn that off, you can enter an IP address (domain name works as well) and port.  This allows you to configure a Slingbox w/o using Sling Accounts.  Note that only one Slingbox can be stored this way at this time.  If you already have manually entered the Slingbox info, touching connect will connect you to that box.

If you are logged in to your Sling Account, you will then be connected to the last Slingbox you previously connected to.

Login - Logs you into your Sling Account.  This button changes to become the "Directory" button once you log in.  Pressing Directory brings up your Slingboxes that you have in your account.  Touching one of them, connects to the box.

Help - Brings up SlingMedia's on-screen help.  It looks like this is actually pulled from their website.
