What happens at the Sling Booth in Las Vegas stays at the Sling Booth in Las Vegas... that is, until Sling Media dropped two webcams and started streaming them live! It's just like being in the Las Vegas Convention Center, only more pixilated. Note: You're not going to see much when the show floor is closed. Visit http://www.cesweb.org for show hours. More »

Posted to blog Sling in the News on January 6, 2009 9:30 AM

SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone... We've all been told it's in the works. We've gotten a sneak preview of an early pre-alpha build . We've even debated what the possibility is Apple would reject the app if submitted. What we have not been told is when all this is coming to an iPhone near you... until now. SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone should be submitted to Apple before the end of Q1 2009. Jamie Lendino over at PC Magazine recently got to go hands on with a developmental alpha build of SlingPlayer for iPhone running on a 3G model - something the SlingCommunity Team is hoping to do during the 2009 CES show this week (stay tuned!). Posted to blog Sling in the News on December 29, 2008 10:43 PM

"Before the end of the year." That's the mantra BlackBerry owners have heard over and over again since the 2008 CES show back in January. It's still 2008 (barely), but it least they made it. A public beta of SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry is out NOW . BlackBerry owners have been eagerly waiting to watch Slingbox streams from their mobile phones for well over a year. It's been a long road, but at least some of them (GSM BlackBerry users) get to join the "I watch TV on my cell phone" fan club, which until now had been exclusive to Windows Mobile, Palm, and Symbian users. BlackBerry owners on CDMA networks like Verizon and Sprint still have to hold out hope whatever platform glitch preventing SlingPlayer from working will get resolved in the future. While the official launch isn't until at least midnight Eastern, members here in the community have... More »

Zatz Not Funny: SlingPlayer for Blackberry at CES Unveiled

Posted to blog Sling in the News on November 14, 2008 10:00 AM

Our old friend Dave Zatz got a chance to drop by Sling's booth at the CES Unveiled event yesterday, and got a peak at the under-development SlingPlayer for Blackberry client running on the new BlackBerry Bold. According to Dave, it looks "gorgeous" on the Bold's screen, and that hopefully the wait won't be much longer. With several cool new phones from RIM hitting the scene, like the Bold and the upcoming Blackberry Storm, this should be music to any Blackberry-addicted media junkie's ears. CNET: Sling.com Promises to Deliver Huge Library of TV and Web Video Content

Posted to blog Sling in the News on October 23, 2008 11:13 AM

In a report filed yesterday, CNET's Caroline McCarthy discusses the pending release of Sling.com, Sling Media's upcoming video portal that "promises to deliver a huge library of TV and web video content." Sling.com has been in the works for nearly two years, and just recently went into private beta. Much of the legwork has involved negotiations between content providers and the company, led by Sling Media Entertainment head Jason Hirschhorn , saying that negotiating with Hollywood has been "a soul-killing, ego-destroying experience." Online video distribution has been adopted slowly by the industry, as networks face the challenge of security, half-baked revenue models, and irregular viewership. One of the more interesting things to come from the discussion is Sling.com's tie in with the recently launched SlingCatcher , a device that captures and displays Slingbox streams and other media on a television. Hirschhorn indicated that in the future, SlingCatcher owners will be... More »
