Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox RSS Feed

A Sling Community Blog By Brandon C.

Blog Avatar The Slingbox and sports go hand in hand! One of the main reasons I got a Slingbox was to watch my home teams while on the road. Here you'll find interesting things happening in the sports arena, and how the Slingbox and the (up and coming) SlingCatcher and Clip+Sling are used to keep up with your favorite teams. Of course, no sports blog would be complete without some statistics. You'll find some interesting stats here, but not the latest scores or standings. You probably know where to find those already.

Scott Kalitta - We will miss you

The drag racer Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his funny car burst into flames, crashed and exploded during qualifying for the N.H.R.A. SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

The National Hot Rod Association said the 46-year-old Kalitta, who had 18 career victories and was the 1994 and 1995 top fuel season champion, was taken to the Old Bridge division of Raritan Bay Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Witnesses told The Star-Ledger of Newark that Kalitta’s Toyota Solara was traveling an estimated 300 miles per hour.

Baseball testing Instant replay using Slingbox!

Check out how Baseball is planning to test instant replay!

Get ready. Instant replay will be used in the All-Star Game. It’s just that it will be in the independent leagues.

The first use of instant replay in professional baseball history will occur during the American Association’s All Star Game in St. Paul, Minn. on July 22.

To avoid adding substantial time to the game, video replay will be streamed to a mobile phone kept in umpire crew chief’s pocket, giving him immediate access to the play from his position on the field. The umpire will be able to control the video – functions such as rewind, fast forward and pause – from his phone using Slingbox technology, through an agreement with Best Buy Mobile and the St. Paul Saints.

Kobe Bryant receives MVP trophy

Kobe Bryant was awarded the  MVP trophy from NBA commissioner David Stern in a brief ceremony before Los Angeles faced Utah in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old Bryant was a runaway winner of his first MVP award, receiving 82 first-place votes and 1,100 points to far outdistance New Orleans' Chris Paul in the voting of 126 media members.

I think he was easily the winner in the MVP contest this year. What do you guys think?

Also, speaking of MVP and the playoffs, who do you think will win it all? I am betting on the lakers!
