Baseball testing Instant replay using Slingbox!

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on June 20, 2008 10:20 PM

Check out how Baseball is planning to test instant replay! Get ready. Instant replay will be used in the All-Star Game. It’s just that it will be in the independent leagues. The first use of instant replay in professional baseball history will occur during the American Association’s All Star Game in St. Paul, Minn. on July 22. To avoid adding substantial time to the game, video replay will be streamed to a mobile phone kept in umpire crew chief’s pocket, giving him immediate access to the play from his position on the field. The umpire will be able to control the video – functions such as rewind, fast forward and pause – from his phone using Slingbox technology, through an agreement with Best Buy Mobile and the St. Paul Saints. Kobe Bryant receives MVP trophy

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on May 7, 2008 10:18 PM

Kobe Bryant was awarded the MVP trophy from NBA commissioner David Stern in a brief ceremony before Los Angeles faced Utah in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals Wednesday night. The 29-year-old Bryant was a runaway winner of his first MVP award, receiving 82 first-place votes and 1,100 points to far outdistance New Orleans' Chris Paul in the voting of 126 media members. I think he was easily the winner in the MVP contest this year. What do you guys think? Also, speaking of MVP and the playoffs, who do you think will win it all? I am betting on the lakers! More »

Super Bowl Celebrities Beware

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on January 31, 2008 9:54 PM

If you don't know who Sheriff Joe is, you should check out this. Joe Arpaio has been called "America's Toughest Sheriff" for his controversial approach to operating the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Now Sheriff Joe’s sign is flashing a “Vacancy” above his outdoor jail, and one certainly gets the impression that America’s toughest lawman or its biggest publicity hound - take your pick - wouldn’t mind locking up someone famous before the week is out. “I hear Paris Hilton is going to be in town,” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says. “She better behave herself. We’ll put her in one of our female tents and get her on one of our female chain gangs.” Just to eliminate any confusion, he’s not talking about the chains used for measuring first downs on Super Bowl Sunday. These are the kind that bind together inmates before they are sent out to pick up... More »

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on January 31, 2008 7:14 PM

Kentucky Fried Chicken has come up with a twist on Superbowl commercials. How to get your name out and do it without spending any real money. They have been doing a 'Hot Wings' Promo on thier website, called Show Us Your Hot Wings . Now they have cooked up a tasty bit of ambush marketing for the Super Bowl. KFC hopes a player or entertainer performs the chicken dance at this year's Super Bowl. The chicken chain said it would make a charitable donation of $260,000 to "Colonel's Scholars" in the name of the first player or entertainment performer who does the wing-flapping part of the wedding perennial "chicken dance" for three seconds in the end zone. The campaign is designed to promote KFC's hot wings. KFC spokesman Rick Maynard said a plan is in place for postgame ads should a player or performer "flap their hot wings" for at... More »

Fedor Wins Again!

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on January 1, 2008 6:19 PM

The best mixed martial arts fighter in the world, heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko , continued his winning streak today in Tokyo with a dramatic first-round submission over the South Korean giant Hong Man Choi. Emelianenko, who spurned the American Ultimate Fighting Championship because Japanese promotions offered him more money and more freedom than UFC, showed once again that he's got both the strength and the technical precision to dominate mixed martial arts. The 7-foot-2, 360-pound Choi gave it a game effort and landed a couple of rough strikes, badly bruising Emelianenko's face. But Emelianenko has much better MMA skills, and as soon as they went to the ground, it was clear that Emelianenko was going to win. Although Choi was on top and landed a few solid strikes to Emelianenko's face, Emelianenko quickly got Choi's arm locked in a textbook submission hold, and Choi had no choice but to tap out.... Curt Schilling tells Roger Clemens to Give Back Awards

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on December 19, 2007 10:08 PM

Just posted on the AP. Curt always loves to put his two cents in. Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling called on Roger Clemens to give up the four Cy Young Awards he’s won since 1997 if he can’t clear his name from allegations that he used steroids to prolong and enhance his career. “If he doesn’t do that then there aren’t many options as a fan for me other than to believe his career 192 wins and three Cy Youngs he won prior to 1997 were the end,” Schilling wrote Wednesday in his blog , 38pitches.com. “From that point on the numbers were attained through using (performance-enhancing drugs). Just like I stated about Jose (Canseco), if that is the case with Roger, the four Cy Youngs should go to the rightful winners, and the numbers should go away if he cannot refute the accusations.” Read more here. DirecTV Supercast With Sling Media Test Drive

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on September 23, 2007 7:46 PM

We announced here a few days ago that Sling Media was working with the NFL and DirecTv to produce the NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ SuperFan™ DIRECTV SUPERCAST. I don't have DirecTv but was fortunate enough to give it a test drive today. It's pretty darn cool! You get live streams of every NFL SUNDAY TICKET game right on your PC, via your Internet Explorer. No software to download, not special codecs needed, nothing. Just go to your Supercast page and start watching. They have live streams of every NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ game, plus the Red Zone Channel. Real-time player and team stats and scores. You also get highlights from every game as they happen and after the game is over. The site works pretty well. Except that I couldn't watch my home team even though they were on an away game. But I could Sling it and watch the other games... More »

Bonds era ending in San Francisco

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on September 22, 2007 2:38 AM

From the Associated Press. .. Barry Bonds is finished in San Francisco. The Giants told Bonds they will not bring him back next season, ending a 15-year run in which he set the single-season and all-time home run records and became a lightning rod for the steroids debate in baseball. I wonder if he will retire or try to find another team. What do you think he will do? More »

Free Porn From Your Home?

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on September 18, 2007 9:42 AM

Sling Media used this ad and it is definitely something that will make you stop, look and read. Sling Media has always leaned to the funny or eye catching side in their print and electronics ads. But their reference to business travelers and pay per view porn is pretty funny. This ad catches your eye and makes you stop and look. But we think they are pretty much right on when it comes to the best thing to happen to a business traveler. From what we know, and we talk to a lot of business men, it’s not uncommon for them to try and watch adult stuff when out of town. Someone at Sling Media must know this, wonder who? They came out with this ad sometime ago. We have not seen it lately, but they post most of their ads here . You can check it out and also... More »

Caution This can be Addictive

Posted to blog Sports News, Views, and the Slingbox on August 30, 2007 10:51 PM

We were recently debating what is the best Mahna-Mahna song. The Sesame Street version or the Muppet show version. The problem is we can’t get the dang song out of our head! Anyway, you decide. Here is the original Sesame street version. Here is the Muppet Show Version. What do you like the best? Both are great, but I’m more of a Muppet guy. The “Sesame Street” version is cool, but the lead singer is slightly creepy. He’s got a little bit too much of a Charles Manson thing going for children’s television. Both skits were performed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz (Oz handled the background singer puppets — one on each hand). Warning, if you play these, they will stick in your head and you will have a heck of a time getting them out! More »
