What a week! We've had THREE public releases since the last weekly update. In case you missed them: SlingPlayer for Mac OS X (build .128) is available for public beta download SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Smartphone v1.0.5 is available for purchase or 30-day free trial SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows PocketPC v1.1 is available for purchase or 30-day free trial ---> All can be downloaded here <--- In addition, SlingPlayer for Windows 1.4x is in private beta. The program is currently full, but we might need additional people. If you would like to be on the wait list, complete an application here . Palm folks - Still no dates, but I will start collecting email addresses. Once I have an idea of when a beta will happen, I'll send you an email with a link to apply to the program. Check it out! This new beta release includes support for 10.3 and has many fixes to the first public beta version. It also sports a temporary new skin--a baby step in the Mac direction--while we continue to hone an all new look and feel. It might even get better gas mileage. Thanks for your patience while I was out-o-commission. I'm back in the swing of things, madly rushing to get everything back on track. There are a lot of updates here, so check the fine print carefully. Quick note to Blackjack users...
There IS a fix coming, but it's not yet in beta. When I have a timeline, I'll post an update here on my blog and will have a call for beta testers. Until then, check out this workaround posted by Community member TriNe0: 1. Launch sling mobile player but do not connect 2. Click on Menu > Player Options > Encoding 3. Scroll down, and uncheck "auto resolution mode" 4. Change the video resolution to "160x120" 5. Hit OK...and you're set! Thanks TriNe0! More »
Weekly Update 11-15-06
This week's updates: Dash Beta / SlingPlayer 1.5 Beta / Mac Beta Dash Beta: It's really here! Our small group of Wave 1 testers has verified that SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Smartphone can and does work. I'll add the next wave of private beta testers within the next day or two (once I get some clarity on pesky registration issues). If you've already applied, sit tight and maybe rub a rabbit's foot. If you haven't, there's still time: click here to apply . If you're selected as a Wave 2 tester, you'll get an email from me personally as early as tomorrow or as late as this weekend. Weekly Update 11-08-2006
Nothing new to report other than: Hang tight, those of you who've applied to a "currently recuiting" beta (i.e., 10.3 and/or the T-Mobile Dash). Think happy things and before you know it, I'll have a status update for you. And yes, there's still time to apply if you haven't already done so. (See links in previous entries, below.) What a difference a week makes… Boy, am I ever glad we made our Halloween deadline. (I wasn’t too worried, just..wasn’t..sleeping much.) Mac Public Beta Countdown
Wow, my very first corporate blog. I feel so...21st century. I will be publicly lynched if I don't chat about the Mac beta, so let's tawk. Here's the latest... To repeat what I've said in the forums, I fully expect to release the public beta Mac client ("SlingPlayer for OS X") on October 31, as in Tuesday, big ol' Halloween. In the <4% chance that aliens abduct me hours before launch, scramble the software, and insist on pushing back the deadline for the sole purpose of torturing the human race, then I will setup a mini-private beta on the 31st for anyone who has posted on Sling Community and is willing to abide by our beta rules.
