SlingPlayer for Windows v2.0.2 is Live !
In case you missed it, yesterday we rolled out a minor update to the PC client, which is bundled with the latest Slingbox firmware. What's New: The Encoding tab has expanded options. The UI will go through additional changes--this is just step one. To check it out, click on the VGA/QVGA mini-icon, lower left just above the Play/Pause button. The Pro-HD firmware includes a fix to allow HD streaming to a SlingCatcher (which will require new Catcher firmware, due out "soon"). Critical fixes: Stream rate slows until it crashes. FIXED http://www.slingcommunity.com/forum/thread/24708/ Some Vista Acer customers had installation issues FIXED What you need to know: For those who want to switch back and forth between connecting via the Slingbox ID and Direct IP, you'll now need to Add a second entry in your Slingbox Directory. In other words, you'll have two entries to the same Slingbox: one via the SID, one... More »

SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry - 2008 is it!
The rumors are true.... we've been tinkering around with a BlackBerry and now have a solid player demo going to CES. Our Product Manager (Vicky) was in discussions with RIM* throughout most of '07--directly in response to customer requests--and now that they're moving towards supporting streaming video, we're jumping at the chance to bring you a new client. The beta for SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry is still a little ways off, but you can be notified of the recruitment by following these instructions: Go to: beta.slingmedia.com Login or click "Need to Register?" Add your Slingbox & BlackBerry info under: Add New Platforms Hope to see you at CES! We'll be right at the entrance of the Sands CES area, in a towering-can't-be-missed booth. SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry Public Beta Released
As we announced back on December 18th, we planned to have SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry in public beta for 12/30. It is 12/30 right now, at least on the east coast, and we've uploaded SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry v0.5.0.3 and made it available to the public. Users can visit http://mobile.slingmedia.com/ from their BlackBerry to install the software. (We're not making a desktop installer available as part of the public beta at this time to reduce the support issues, OTA installs only.) As previously announced, the officially supported devices are the Pearl 8120, Pearl Flip 8220, Curve 8320, 8820, Curve 8900, and Bold 9000. Unofficially the EDGE-only 8100, 8110, 8300, 8310, 8800, and 8810 will also work. All models must have firmware revision 4.5 or later to install SlingPlayer Mobile. Sharon and I will be working the Sling Media booth at CES next week. So if any of you will be... More »

Mac Public Beta Countdown
Wow, my very first corporate blog. I feel so...21st century. I will be publicly lynched if I don't chat about the Mac beta, so let's tawk. Here's the latest... To repeat what I've said in the forums, I fully expect to release the public beta Mac client ("SlingPlayer for OS X") on October 31, as in Tuesday, big ol' Halloween. In the <4% chance that aliens abduct me hours before launch, scramble the software, and insist on pushing back the deadline for the sole purpose of torturing the human race, then I will setup a mini-private beta on the 31st for anyone who has posted on Sling Community and is willing to abide by our beta rules. In other words, for all of you who have been hanging out here at Sling Community, waiting all these months, I'm guaranteeing you a download on the 31st. [Let's all just take a... More »

New SlingCatcher Firmware Released Today
Our first maintenance release of SlingCatcher firmware is now available. THANK YOU again for all the forum posts. We'll continue to release small, frequent updates based on your continued feedback. Q. How will I be notified of the upgrade? A. New owners will automatically download the latest during installation. Current owners will get notified on the SlingCatcher home screen at a random time between launch (now) and 2 days from launch. This staggered notification approach will help ensure a quick download time for all customers. The home screen is accessed by pressing the Sling logo (“slinky”) on the Catcher’s remote control. Q. Do I have to wait to be notified? A. No. You can download the latest release now, even if you don't yet see the notification. Q. How do I force the upgrade? A. Make sure your TV is set to the SlingCatcher input. Using the Catcher remote control,... More »

Beta Updates
I thought I'd offer a few updates on the status of various beta programs. - SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbain UIQ: This beta is just about wrapped up. We should be done by the end of the month with the first general release of the client out. - SlingPlayer for Windows 2.0: As you may have picked up from the recent leaks and forum chatter, SlingPlayer for Windows 2.0 (SP2.0 for short) is indeed currently in beta. We expect the beta to run several weeks, and we'll add testers in waves during the program. - SlingPlayer Mobile for Blackberry: No new updates, we're waiting on the release of firmware updates to complete development and enter beta. We're quite eager to have this client out, so we'll go to beta as soon as we can. - SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone & iPod Touch: No new updates, we're in early stages of development... More »

SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian UIQ Beta Update
Hello everyone! This is my first blog post as a Sling Media rep, I'm all giddy. ;-) I wanted to let everyone know that the SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian UIQ Beta is progressing very nicely and things look very solid. We've been very happy with the results to date. (Is that too many 'very's in one paragraph?) However, we have something of a Catch-22. The areas of the world where Symbian UIQ is most widely used are also areas with minimal Slingbox penetration. It has been hard to recruit additional testers with Slingboxes and UIQ devices to test the software. We'd like to expand the beta program to get a broader base of feedback before release. So this is another call for testers. If you have a Symbian UIQ device and access to a Slingbox to use in testing, we invite you to sign up for the beta. Help us... More »

Introducing Mark Rymill
Hey Everyone - I'd like to introduce Mark Rymill, who will be helping out with beta activities this fall. He's got an impressive background (that includes a long stint at Apple, some of you will be happy to know), but most importantly his last name begins with "Ry". When he's not slinging, you'll find him piloting the skies or trying out some new kooky food. If we all treat him right, maybe he'll even stick around past the fall. :-) Welcome Mark!
