Is the Slingbox Tuner Going Away?

Sling Media sure has been busy lately, introducing new Slingboxes, new player software and new symbian software. They have even completely recreated their website, Slingmedia.com

If you have not looked at it lately you'll see they've created a completly new user interface and have added quite a bit of new, interesting information.

One thing you'll notice when you browse their site is that they no longer are promoting the Slingbox Tuner model. They list all the others, and even have a Help Me Choose the right Slingbox program. But no where do you see the Tuner as a model you can buy.

In fact if you use the "Help me choose" program, tell it you only have basic cable and no HD, the program will suggest you buy a PRO model since without the Tuner; the PRO is the only model with a television tuner built in.

They do still have the tuner available in their online store, and from their other distributors. But the absence of the Tuner being featured makes me think they are silently moving away from it and soon it will no longer be available.

Oh no, I own a SB 220-100, with analog tuner.
Does this post mean that after the upcoming digital conversion, I won't be
able to get support ?
I have comcast and it seems to be working (now -lol), but wonder for how much
longer? Will there be a firmware upgrade maybe, or an upgrade exchange program for a digital tuner?

I'm not sure why this is surprising. The Tuner has now been discontinued for about two years.

The analog tuner will continue to work with your cable provider so long as they continue to offer analog services. There is no firmware upgrade to make it magically digital compliant, considering it's NTSC only and does not contain the necessary hardware to tune ATSC or ClearQAM channels. The PRO-HD contains digital capable hardware.

Sling is now offering an upgrade program for previous owners, but you can typically get a better deal online, like in our SlingCommunity store powered by Amazon.
