No SlingCatcher this Year

Scott Greczkowski of SatelliteGuys posted a video of an interview they did at the "CES Unveiled Press Preview even" in New York.

The video is an interview with Brian Jaquet of Sling Media and he discusses the upcoming SlingCatcher.

When asked when we will see the SlingCatcher, Brian says not until next year and they will be talking more about it at the CES show in January.

So, don't bother to put this one one your Christmas list. Maybe we will get lucky and see Clip + Sling yet this year.

Here is the interview.

It is not funny anymore. I assume that eco star sent it back to the lab to make it into an IPTV setop box to be used to watch eco star via internet. I am also sure that they will block ex pats from abroad. this doe not look good. ex pats of the world unit!!

What would be the point of turning SlingCatcher into an IPTV set top box, which blocks expats from watching, when there are plenty of those around already? However, these delays are getting tiresome - this isn't vaporware.... is it? Sling know that this is what people want, so give it to them!

Interestingly, the LocationFree TV Box, which was launched in Japan last year but never made it to the US, appears to have been withdrawn from the Japanese market as well - it's disappeared from the Japanese Sony Style website.

What a failure! I think Slingmedia is just as disapointed as we are in the delay. Hopefully, 1) it doesn't turn into Battlecruiser 3000AD/Duke Nukem Forever project, 2) competition from shipping products don't eat Sling's lunch such a EZ Fetch. BOOHOO SLING!

It's definitely not vapor, Ken. In fact, some of you may have even seen some packaging materials or that we've been honored as a CES Innovations 2008 award winner. The bottom line is that this is a new product category for us and the development effort has taken longer than we anticipated. However, once we release the SlingCatcher in early 2008, I'm confident you'll enjoy pulling content from a variety of sources using the sexy and innovative GUI on your television. Keep an eye on Sharon's Beta Blog for an upcoming early-look opportunity...

The question was rhetorical, Dave, fear not! What I've seen looks very promising indeed.
