SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry - 2008 is it!

The rumors are true.... we've been tinkering around with a BlackBerry and now have a solid player demo going to CES.

Our Product Manager (Vicky) was in discussions with RIM* throughout most of '07--directly in response to customer requests--and now that they're moving towards supporting streaming video, we're jumping at the chance to bring you a new client.

The beta for SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry is still a little ways off, but you can be notified of the recruitment by following these instructions:
  1. Go to: beta.slingmedia.com
  2. Login or click "Need to Register?"
  3. Add your Slingbox & BlackBerry info under: Add New Platforms

Hope to see you at CES! We'll be right at the entrance of the Sands CES area, in a towering-can't-be-missed booth.

Great!!  Glad to hear this may become a reality soon in 2008.

I am new to Slingbox having  just recently  joined the community.  I use my Slinbox constantly.  It is located at my daughter's house in NYC and I live in Madrid, Spain.  Very satisfied with it.  As I travel a great deal, I am  considering  the purchase of a small notebook (smaller than my present laptop) that has a Linux based OS (gOS).  Will I be able to use the Slinbox software?  What are my options?

Welcome to the community!  While we don't have a player for the Linux OS, there are definitely compatible, small notebook options out there.   And in fact this is a great question to pose to the community here (ie on the forums).  I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions as to the best small- to ultra-portable Win or Mac.

From our side, you'll find our min sys req's for Windows and Mac at support.slingmedia.com

FYI the Producer of HBO's Entourage had the same thought and went with the OQO - pretty slick solution!

Totally valid question.  However, at this time we don't have a list of supported models to announce. As a rule of thumb though, SlingPlayer Mobile software works best on devices that (1) support 3G or WiFi and (2) contain firmware that supports video streaming applications.

As with all of our mobile clients, we expect to offer a free 30-day try-before-you-buy program (I know, I know...doesn't help you with your immediate purchasing question!)

I'll update everyone when we have a list of compatible BB models.

My Treo 700wx is a distant memory so me and my 8830 is waiting to test drive!    Come on, give it up for some beta testers -- like me.

Don't forget to talk to the carriers (aka Verizon). They have already started to put policies in place to squash Slinging over EvDO through data limits -- even on "unlimited" subscriptions. (Don't try to sort out that logic, you'll hurt yourself...)
