Sling Media today announced that Slingbox owners can expect to see SlingPlayer Mobile get a round of updates moving into the summer, as well as an all-new client designed to bring Slingbox television to Symbian UIQ smartphones.
Upon SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian UIQ's launch, Sling Media has announced support the following UIQ handsets. Compatibility with a greater range of handsets will be added over time:
- Sony Ericsson P1i
- Sony Ericsson P990i
- Sony Ericsson W960i
- Sony Ericsson W950i
- Sony Ericsson M600i
- Motorola MOTORIZR Z8
"We are excited to expand our support for Symbian smartphones, providing customers with the best possible mobile TV experience. With over two-and-a-half billion global 3G and WiFi connections the market potential for mobile TV is huge," said Blake Krikorian, co-founder and CEO of Sling Media. “In order to meet this growing desire for mobile TV, we will continue to expand the availability of SlingPlayer Mobile to as many platforms and devices as possible."
"We’re excited to have the SlingPlayer experience delivered to UIQ -- it’s fast, it’s fun, and it offers an enjoyable user experience,” said Jerry Panagrossi, Vice President and General Manager of North American Operations, Symbian.
UIQ support isn't all that's coming for Symbian users, according to Sling. An update to SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian S60 should leverage Nokia's N95 8GB smartphone... and it's big screen.
Of course, Symbian users aren't the only ones expected to get some Sling lovin' by the time summer rolls around. SlingPlayer Mobile for Blackberry was shown earlier in the year at CES and is still in the pipeline. Windows Mobile users also have an update coming, though it's currently unknown what fixes or enhancements are due.
Keep your eyes peeled to the SlingCommunity and to Sling Media's SlingPlayer Mobile section for more on these developments.

How about fixing some of the Palm items, like the Palm Lifedrive viewable screen size and non-functioning number keys or volume controls?
It would also be nice to be able to turn off the keypad on the Treo, to conserve battery and reduce glare.
