SlingPlayer 2.0 Public Beta 2 Now Available

It's been a little over a month since Sling Media unveiled SlingPlayer for Windows 2.0 Public Beta, a preview of the next generation SlingPlayer software for desktop PCs. In that time, it looks like the friendly folks at Sling haven't stopped working on the next-gen player.

Starting now, a click of the "Check for Updates" link in the SlingPlayer 2.0 Beta 1 software will download and install Beta 2, including numerous bug fixes and other enhancements. More details on exactly what's new in Beta 2 is forthcoming, but in the meantime, maybe you can fill us in on what's changed in the comments section.

If you haven't yet checked out the SlingPlayer Beta, read up on what it's all about in our review, then Download SlingPlayer for Windows 2.0 Public Beta from Sling Media's site to get started.
Don't forget to drop by the SlingPlayer 2.0 Public Beta forum and share your thoughts.

An added much-needed feature is Control Mode, which lets you temporarily disable the buffer so you can do several remote commands in a row (example: doing remote menu navigation).

Sorry-double post.

I would like more info on when a Mac version will be available. I paid the same price for my Slingbox as everyone else and do not like being treated like a 2nd class customer just because I happen to be on a Mac. While I realize that the PC market is much larger than the Mac market, and that the SlingPlayer for PC is going to receive first attention, Sling still should do a better job of keeping its Mac customers apprised of development progress for the Mac version. Surely, Unix programmers are not in that short supply? It was interesting to note in the review of the update beta software that the reviewer thought it was "...tight... like OS X tight!" Now, if it could only run in OS X!

Beta2 software is nice, the semi dvr, closed captioning with transparent-ish background for easier reading are very welcome additions. My only problem is that it's telling me that there's software for my "slingbox" hardware..... I'm guessing it means a rom update... But beta2 slingplayer "settings - setup assistant" won't connect to do the upgrade... it always says sorry but you need to be connected to the internet.... But I AM connected, and I'm able to view the slingplayer if I click "remind later" .. it connects just fine so i can watch any channel. Is this a bug in the new software about the "setup assistant" not working? I've tried turning off zonealarm completely *even though it has full access granted already to lan and wan*. It's just setup assistant that can't connect... I can watch the slingbox fine from anywhere. Good thing it's already setup correctly since I can't get in to change settings around.
