It's TRUE! SlingCatcher Now Available for Pre-Order

A long time ago, at a Consumer Electronics Show far, far away... Sling Media announced a little product called SlingCatcher; a revolutionary device designed to connect and stream your Slingbox (meaning your home television sources) to any TV set in or out of the home. That was all the way back in early 2007.

We happened to get another look at SlingCatcher at the 2008 CES, and were no less impressed by what SlingCatcher has to offer the Slinger. Any TV is magically transformed to your TV, plus other nifty abilities like the ability to playback digital audio and video from a disk or USB drive, or even display content directly from your computer screen. We were told that SlingCatcher's feature set was a moving target, so it's not clear yet what abilities it will have at launch until we get some hands on time.

Starting today, SlingCatcher is officially available for pre-order, meaning it won't be long now until this highly anticipated, often considered "never coming" gadget will be showing up at your door.

For $299, the ability to watch and control your home TV on another TV is only a short time away. Tie that in with the new Slingbox PRO HD (which also is now available for pre-order) and you can stream to your SlingCatcher or computer in high-definition resolution.

Pre-Order your SlingCatcher today from the Sling Community Shop (powered by Amazon).

I am a little confused>>if I go to Argentina with my laptop do a bring slingcatcher with me and connect to the tv in Argentina or does the slingcatcher stay with my tv in n.h. ?

"What differentiates Sling Catcher from SlingBox Pro? Apple TV? "

SB PRO: takes the feed and puts it in your computer.
Apple TV: local use (does not allow you to get that feed remotely
Catcher: takes the SB feed and puts it in another TV (either remotely or locally)

The Catcher goes with you to Argentina so you can get the SP feed on the remote TV there.

What objections? If the broadcast industry had any objections to placeshifting, it would have tried to strangle the SlingBox at birth, and without the SlingBox, what would be the point of the SlingCatcher? All the SlingCatcher does is allow people to do without a computer, what they'd do anyway with a computer.

I Pre-ordered a Sling catcher last week and was told they would not charge my credit card until they were ready to ship my order. Well, 2 days ago the charge showed up..............so hopefully it's on it's way! I can't wait. There are many great features I'm looking forward to trying. My only concerns is hows the picture quality going to be on my 42" Sony.

In Canada, its shows available Oct.9th at one of our online retailers, however I have to admit the price is prohibitive as it costs as much as the new Sling Media Pro HD Slingbox (SB300-140) at $329CDN . I'm not sure about others, but I value the Pro HD Slingbox, in terms of usefulness, more than the SlingCatcher, so its hard to swallow paying the same for them (but, that's just me)

Yes, any news on release dates.

Its confirmed to be released in Canada October 9th. As I live in Canada, I could pick it up on this date, but I'll be in New York city next weekend (Sept 27th to Sept 29th). Would it be released in the US by then?
