Categories: News, Rumors and Gossip SlingPlayer Mobile
In today's hub-bub surrounding T-Mobile's launch of the first phone running Google's new Android operating system, many questions reagarding its look, feel, and features have been answered... all but whether or not Sling Media is looking to bring it's flavor of TV anywhere to the budding OS.
Leave it to our old friend Dave Zatz to ask the tough questions, which is probably all the better since he's got lots of friends there. According to an e-mail response from the company, Sling has Android on their radar, but isn't expecting Slingbox support this year in leiu of "higher priorities."Want to know what those are? Hit up the read link below and pay ZatzNotFunny a visit.

so when can we expect it to be avail for the android OS... (for my T-Mobile G1)
The HERO has arrived and many more Andriod devices are on the way... Where's SLINGMEDIA on this one? I just dumped my Windows Mobile for the Android and really miss my Sling!
SELL YOUR SLINGBOXES cause they're NOT going to support ANDROID !!!!!! Here's the message I got from SlingMedia Support when I asked the question....How sad !!!
Thank you for contacting Sling Media Technical Support.
As we understand, you want to know if the Slingbox will support the Android Mobile devices any time soon. We will be more than willing to assist you.
Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices, based on the Linux operating system, developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in a Java-like language that utilizes Google-developed Java libraries, but does not support programs developed in native code.
Most of the supported cell phones run on Windows OS. Since Android runs on Linux OS, it is not compatible with the SlingPlayer. Therefore, Slingbox will not support it and we do not know if it will be supported any time soon.

Sounds like this is a canned reply for any question about Android. I got the same answer last week except for the "any time soon" part. I was told flat out the they will not be writing an Android app. I got some feedback from a reporter from a tech website wanting a copy of the email. They are looking into further.
I sent another email off to Sling today asking them how they can say they are never going to support Android when they had a job posting for an Android developer.

Okay, let's think about this for a second. Sling, now like most tech companies, really won't talk about future products, services, or enhancements. Support reps are not an official word on what Sling will and won't do, so take it with a grain of salt. In fact, support reps really shouldn't comment at all.
Here's what I'll say. If Android continues to gain momentum and becomes a force in the mobile space, and they can make money from it, it will likely get attention from Sling.
Never say never; anything is possible.

It's one thing to say we can't say or don't know about something. It's a completely different story when they come out and say we will not be doing this period. If this doesn't have any truth to it then why is the wording of the email I received and the email zb1 received almost the same word for word. They have to have some kind of official response they have to give for Android related questions.
I am about ready to switch to an iPhone and this is one of the major reasons why. Maybe Slingbox will pull their head out and get this done quickly or at least post a date this will be in place.
Just read and article that Samsung and Motorola are planning agressive roll out of Android next year. Samsung is saying that no WM phones in a few years. HTC is really on board with the Android platform as well. Shouldn't be long before 1/3 of Sling's mobile app sales dry up because WM is a POS and dying.
