Zatz Not Funny: SlingPlayer for Blackberry at CES Unveiled

Our old friend Dave Zatz got a chance to drop by Sling's booth at the CES Unveiled event yesterday, and got a peak at the under-development SlingPlayer for Blackberry client running on the new BlackBerry Bold. According to Dave, it looks "gorgeous" on the Bold's screen, and that hopefully the wait won't be much longer.

With several cool new phones from RIM hitting the scene, like the Bold and the upcoming Blackberry Storm, this should be music to any Blackberry-addicted media junkie's ears.

Check out the screen shots over at Zatz Not Funny

I am so sick and tired of hearing about sling player for BB b/c I am upset that I invested in a BB 10 months ago after being teased, it won't be long..........

Now here it is again, "hopefully the wait won't be much longer." Please, don't insult me anymore. We will be waiting this time next year for this thing to come out. Just go ahead and say y'all screwed up and make it VAPORWARE.........

When it comes to BB applications, don't hold your breath and companies looking to do business should hang it up or be prepared to deal with angry customers. Look to do business with someone other than RIM.

I agree. They have been saying this for over a year. I as so upset I am ready to switch to another program. Either release it as a beta and let people use it at there on risk or say you won't have it.

Another "I agree". I had to move off a WM6 device. I went to the BB because support was "just around the corner". I should have gone to the Ipod and just abandon all hope of using my Sling with my mobile device. At least this way I could experience the Ipod. Promises promises.

I agree as well. I bought my wife a blackberry pearl and added a data plan so she can watch TV on her phone.... that was a year ago! I have been paying data plan for that phone for nothing. I should have waited until the support for Blackberry is actually out.

Looking at the BB storm, should I wait till sling gets this matter resolved. Because I watch on my Trio700wx every day. Any clue as to when BB will be supported?

If I were watching my Slingbox with a Trio and wanted to upgrade to the Storm, I would keep my Trio and forget about the BB Storm because they are never going to get the BB player completed.

IF they do complete the BB player it will take soooooooooo looooooooooong that you will be very upset that you have given up your Trio, invested a lot of money (phone purchase and monthly BB package) in the Storm for reduced functionality (not being able to watch Slingbox). Right now the only benefit I get from my Slingbox is watching at a computer.

I like the email function of the BB, but after that the BB to me is just like any other phone. For me, I am seriously considering dropping the BB and the hefty $30 BB monthly package on both BB's that I have ($60 a month) to go with something else. Hell, I might even invest in a Trio or a Windows Smart phone like the Motorola Q9.

Slingbox and BB are missing out on a great opportunity to increase sales and their popularity. I won't get rid of my Slingbox, but I can sure dump my BB and the additional $60 a month that I have been paying for the BB package for about a year now and who knows how much longer before IF they release the BB player.

Come to think of it I have wasted 11 months x $60 = $660 on the BB package for 2 phones. That really pisses me off because I bought these phones for that functionality. I really need to do some research on what phone I am going to switch to, so I can dump the BB and save myself some money.

I would buy the BB Storm today if Slingbox software was available.. I'll just wait.. maybe I will see it at the CES show in Vegas.

I changed from my Treo 755p to the blackberry curve thinking there would be a slingplayer module for it by now. Wish someone would post a true ETA and maybe let us know what the holdup is. If there is a real issue, maybe putting the problem out there might provoke an opinion or fix that could solve the issue, and we can enjoy your product on our blackberries.

I am in the same boat... I switched to a BlackBerry 8830 in anticipation of SPM for BB being available soon. I had a Treo 700p and was VERY happy with SPM for Palm OS. I participated in the SPM for Palm OS beta and it's release was smooth...

For SPM for BB --- we haven't heard anything in over 11 months. I am really disappointed and frustrated that a beta is not available yet.

Let me get this straight...several of you bought a phone and/or began paying monthly data plan fees in anticipation of being able to use a product that didn't even have an official launch date? Really??? Now THAT is dumb.

  You are absolutely correct!

There used to be a time in American Society where people, businesses and corporations valued morals & ethics. A reputation was only as good as your word or a businesses image and we worked hard to protect our reputation and image. That meant doing what we said we would do.

It has become apparent to our society that our business leaders are more concerned with that new catchy phrase 'corporate greed' as we learn about corporations and businesses that have been cheating us in one way or another to line their pockets with cash or to take advantage of us in some other way.

I guess I was silly for believing in American values, but then again I did make this investment in good faith before we the public really learned of the fall out effect that corporate greed has.

Right now I am watching the same thing happening with the Slacker device at Slcker.com  They have entered into a very similiar situation with RIM to develop a music player that will work with BB's and guess what? They have even demonstrated a working product, sound familiar? By the way they anticipate a release very soon....... oh keep your fingers crossed!

I have warned them that RIM is not a reputable company and stop getting worked up over it because it just won't happen until the greedy see the need to make it happen. So don't invest in them.

I wish somebody had given me some good advice before I got locked into a 2 yr phone contract with my BlackBerry.

Yeah,  I guess I am just another sucker who believed some geeky corporate thugs.........
