Ok, I just got a BlackBerry Bold from ATT. Upgraded the one I had.
(Hoping SPM will wokr on it)
Downloaded it and as soon as I click the app in the BB, I get an error Application terminated. SlingPlayer Mobile (UK) has been denied the "Phone" permission.
Now what? :) I know the phone portion of the BB is working fine. How silly am I being?

Welcome to Channel Beta, a place to get pertinent Beta Program updates, directly from the Beta Team!
You have an AT&T Bold but it is on a UK network? Isn't it constantly roaming?
Anyway, when you installed SPM and ran it the first time you normally get prompted to allow it to access things. Did that not happen? You may need to manually go into the Applications and give SlingPlayer Mobile permissions to access everything. A simple approach is to just remove it and try installing it again before spelunking into the manual settings, just in case it was a fluke or somehow you denied a permission it needs, etc.

A) I am in the US but the Slingbox is in the UK.
B) Yes, I goofed. I know that! I downloaded it ... got the prompt to allow perms ... and said ... (like a fool) Er, ... NO.
I went to uninstall it ... but I cannot find the original install. In Applications folder, so SPM. No SPM anywhere. So did download it again .... when it was done, I was warned "already installed". But where? And it will not launch due to perms error.
No perms prompt at "second". Not used to Bold after 3 with 8??? So, like you suggested, was going into the app (SPM) to indeed open perms up but cannot load it as it only says no perms so - how do I access what to allow whom to get into ....
Sorry!
:)
Robert
On the Bold it is in the 'Downloads' folder. You can remove it, or change the permissions, under Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications

Saw it in Downloads folder. But I cannot find your ref to Options > Advanced Options> Apps. My main menu doesn't have Options and the Menu key in Applications, Downloads, or Setup - none contain Options. Sorry, this is a BB support issue, not SPM.
R
Options isn't in the menu, is it the 'wrench' icon on the BB. Usually one of the last icons.

Is all ok with your servers?
SMP asked me if I wanted to sign in ... and I am signing in FINE on a browser based PC ... but on SMP ... no go ... keeps saying ...
Would you like to log into your Sling account to ...
Yes
I KNOW the email addr and passwords are fine as they are, like I said working on web based.
But on SMP I get
Unable to Connect to Sling Account server.
Please try again - how many time should I keep retrying? :)
R
Server is fine, I just logged in from my Bold.
That error can be caused if SPM can't use the network connection for some reason - like being set for WiFi and not having WiFi connected, or Mobile of the mobile data connection isn't up, etc. Actually I'm pretty sure you get another error if the password were wrong, that error literally means SPM can't make a socket connection to the server. And the server is up and taking connections, so I'd bet something is keeping SPM from calling out.

I've downloaded application to my BB Bold, but get no picture (black screen) and no sound. However all the function keys work on the phone. I can go up and down on chanels, turn off box etc. so i know i have a connection, I just can't get picture or sound in either wifi preferref or mobile prefferd options! Can anyone help?
Finally got my working, logging in manually. Good work, mega, looks great on the Bold...but I can't get any of the remote functions to work (even channel changing, etc....). Any tips on getting this working?
Well, guys, VERY disappointing. I am so jealous!
I went back to ATT today with the Bold.
Eventually very helpful Sales lady actually replaced Bold thinking it was bad.
Email works fine (non Enterprise mode) ...
Phone works.
Browsing works ... all seems to work.
Downloaded SPM again, ensured all Permissions were ok.
I really thought we had it!
But then went to sign in to my Sling Account - which ism the same as my login at sling.com, right? And no go. Same error which is, as you claim, MegaZone, is not a password error ... but "Unable to connect to Sling Account server". Please try again." Also tried with bad password on purpose ... same error. ". BB Bold purchase is dependent on getting app to work ... and I am stumped.
jBird1a - what did you mean by "logging in manually"?
Robert
So you have a bb bold that works but you can't get remote to work! I have bb bold with all the remote functions working but no picture!! Maybe if I sell u my bb bold you can have the best of both World's and I can get some slppe!! :-(
Seriously though, I sincerely hope this is down to it being a beta issue and I sincerely hope slingmedia fix all our problems sooner rather than later! The main reason I bought the Slingbox Pro was for the BB application. I'm feeling very tired and frustrated in my choice!!
Are you a Brit? "goin t uk"?
Not sure why this would be a beta issue ... as MegaZone and other (including you) are able to connect. I can't sign in! :(
Add to this, I was unaware that Bold was only 2 weeks old itself ...

Form your other posts it sounds like it isn't working right from the desktop SlingPlayer either. If that's the case, then you need to focus on that before playing with SPM BB.
If you get everything working right from the desktop and you're still getting this on SPM BB, it is your BlackBerry. I saw something like this with one beta tester, turned out the firmware on his BB was somehow corrupted and when he loaded new firmware it starting working. Does the native media player play video files correctly? If not, it is *definitely* the OS. If it does work then it could still be the OS, but I'd completely remove and then reinstall SPM. If that doesn't help, then look for a firmware update.
But, again, ONLY after you've confirmed streaming is working correctly in the desktop client. You don't want to be chasing a red herring around if it is the Slingbox not working correctly.

What device is connected to your Slingbox? It needs to be one of the devices included in the standard IR DB, SPM doesn't recognize custom remotes or anything like that. (No copy of SPM does, it only works with the officially supported STBs.) But if it is a supported device and it is properly configured from the desktop, SPM should have the same control.

Yes, the Sling Accounts login is the same as the login at Sling.com. It does sound like SPM can't connect to the server. Have you tried over WiFi from the Bold? That would completely bypass the mobile network and carrier. If that works then you know it isn't SPM or the Bold, but the mobile connection. You can try entering an APN manually just in case, you'll need to find out what the correct APN is for you to use. Are you on Vodafone? I've heard from others than sometimes using their wap APN works when the Internet APN fails - though I don't know how that impacts your data plan costs. (Sounds like some data plans allow the internet APN to be used and others don't? Could be.)

I'm sure they're issues with the BB, network, or configuration, depending.

I initially had an issue connecting to the Slingbox from my BB Bold (works wonderfully, btw) - I had to change the following option:
Settings -> Advanced -> Browser ---- change MDS Browser from "Blackberry" to "Internet". This allowed me to connect successfully.
Side note - If it doesn't work in beta, it *eventually* will work in production... Give it time, and patience, and assist in the beta process if it is that important to your purchase.
I agree it will have to work in production ... but if it is already working for others on Bold, it seems strange ... BTW my Settings > Advanced > Browser was already set to Internet.
BB can see my office WiFi network but not obtain IP from DHCP. So I am off to a "well known coffee shop" to see if it works there.
Successfully signed into their WiFi network; browsed using WiFI. Launched SPM; tried to sign into account; different error. Network unavailable. Check network settings. SPM IS set for WiFi. I am now convinced this is a SPM problem. I am using build 0.5.0.3.
