SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone... We've all been told it's in the works. We've gotten a sneak preview of an early pre-alpha build. We've even debated what the possibility is Apple would reject the app if submitted. What we have not been told is when all this is coming to an iPhone near you... until now. SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone should be submitted to Apple before the end of Q1 2009. 

Jamie Lendino over at PC Magazine recently got to go hands on with a developmental alpha build of SlingPlayer for iPhone running on a 3G model - something the SlingCommunity Team is hoping to do during the 2009 CES show this week (stay tuned!). Jamie calls out a few nifty features never-before-seen on SlingPlayer Mobile, like the Home Channel Set feature that let's you set a default channel when you fire it up, as well as a good run through of the UI.

Here's what really caught our interest, though. "Brian Jaquet, a spokesperson for Sling Media, said that the company plans to submit a final version to Apple by the end of the first quarter 2009. If Apple's quick turnaround on other apps is any indication, and if Apple doesn't find any issues with SlingPlayer Mobile, it could appear for sale within days after that."

Sling Media doesn't have the greatest track record hinting at release dates during the development cycle, so let's not take this as gospel. Anything can still happen. But, if everything should go well, late Q1 or early Q2 (depending on how Apple's approval takes) will be a very exciting time for Slingers.
