Categories: News, Rumors and Gossip Television Sling.com
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal and other online sources, Sling.com owner Echostar, and Viacom, the entertainment company behind Nickelodeon, MTV, VH1 and several other networks, have inked a distribution deal that will make Viacom programming available through the Sling.com video portal site.
Details regarding the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, as well as exactly what Viacom programming, other than some content from MTV networks, will be available through the Sling.com site.
This Viacom deal gives Sling.com programming that's not currently available on competing sites, like Google's YouTube and NBC's Hulu.com video site.
As Peter Kafka pointed out in his blog, MediaMemo, Sling already redistributes the majority of NBC's rival video site, Hulu, except for the two shows Viacom licenced to Hulu in a one-off deal. However, according to information from Kafka, the two shows that were once exclusive to Hulu, Comedy Central's The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, will also be available at Sling.com under the new arrangement.
