Kicking off what we're told to be "the first phase of a broader social viewing strategy," Facebook users who watch video on Sling.com now have a new tool at their disposal to share even more details about their personal lives with their online friends. The new feature, dubbed Facebook Connect, allows those viewing video from Sling.com to directly interact with their Facebook page and do things like update their status with what they're watching, post to their Facebook wall, and share videos directly with friends.
For example, if you're watching The Simpsons on Sling.com, you can update your online status to say:
"- Billy Bob is watching "The Simpsons" on Sling.com. Watch along: sling.com/link "
Facebook connect also works for those watching their home TV via Slingbox through the online SlingPlayer. The status update is roughly the same, but it will say "live" and won't provide a link for others to watch along.
If you're a Facebook user, you can try out the new features now. Head over to Sling.com and fire up a video.
