From the video they have wifi enabled. I bet this won't work over 3G. Just a guess.

It would be cool if you could just pay more to get a 3G enabled version - if it's some issue with AT&T.

Of course it will work over 3g.

I hope it's approved in time for the start of baseball season. And if can run on the Softbank 3G network in Japan, even better!

Will this be submitted to ALL app stores? i.e. UK?

It's about time. I been checking every three days and I'm glad they got it in. Now let's start slinging...

Finally!!! I can't wait 'til apple approves!

The bad news is that this is one of those apps which will get tons of scrunity not only from Apple but also AT&T. The good news is that Slingplayer Mobile has been available for literally every other phone platform, and all available on AT&T's network. I purchased Slingplayer Mobile on my HTC 8125 almost two years ago, and that phone only knew 802.11b and Edge networks....and Edge worked ok (well, it was a little sucky).

Considering that Sling has lots of experience dealing with slow networks, AT&T can't claim that they are doing anything differently than in previous platforms. The real problem is sheer numbers. Since Sling started showing off the original jailbroken proof of concept app, how many iPhones have been sold? It may be possible to actually track spikes in the AT&T network from this software, especially during major sports events like March Madness.

But since there are other streaming players available for iPhone now (like CBS's player, Joost and others), I expect to see this approved. The only real question is whether they will try to give Sling grief on Edge and/or 3G use. Given the previous track record with other Slingplayer Mobile apps, this shouldn't be a problem, but you never know.

how much will they charge for sling on iphone. if i have a key already will i have to pay

March 28, 2009 10:34 AM

Sheer numbers... But how many people with iPhones ALSO have sling hardware? So it can't be too many. Not like all the other video apps out there that stream something or another...

I'm willing to pay upwards of $20 for this app (I paid the near $30 for LogMeIn) so I'm not hesitant to pay for GOOD apps. If you're on Twitter make sure you're following SlingMedia there to get the 1st heads up when the app is available in the App Store

I, too, like the rest of you have been following this from day 1. No BS, I have googled iphone slingplayer probably everyday since I bought my first iPhone. When I heard this news I couldn't have been happier. Now, does anyone have any clue how long it usually takes Apple to approve applications, and how long after we can expect to be able to buy it from the app store? Assuming of course that it does get accepted

Hopefully it won't take too long - I've got email feeds and twitter feeds watching for the release to the app store myself.

I figure if Apple can release a handful of apps that make fart sounds, they can surely release the slingplayer quickly, and without glitch.

Are you sure? ATT is odd when it comes to what the iPhone can do over their network. For example, the CNN article about the Skype app today shows that the you can only text chat when on 3g. To place a call within skype you have to be on a wifi network.

Well yeah, making an actual call is their reason for existing. So, I can see ATT being tough with that one.

From what I hear, it usually takes apple about a week or so to approve and release the app to the app store.  Give or take a few days, maybe even weeks if there are certain things in the app that apple dissapproves.   Apple notifies developer of what they don't approve of and depending on how long the developer fixes this and resends the app again for approval determines how long it will take before we see it in the app store.  I personally think there should not be any obstacles and that we should be slinging in the next couple of days.  (fingers crossed) =P  Happy slinging!
