Good point, that certainly helps knowing more places are free, for sure. And for Touch owners.
Update: SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone Only for Slingbox PRO, SOLO, and PRO HD Users
Categories: Sling Media Hardware iPhone / iPod Touch
Sling Media has just put up a new page on their website announcing an $50 upgrade incentive for Slingbox Classic, Slingbox AV, and Slingbox Tuner customers.
What's interesting is at the bottom of the page, it reads:
Sling Media is encouraging customers who own these earlier versions of Slingbox to upgrade to Slingbox SOLO or Slingbox PRO-HD to take advantage of next generation software and services that will only be supported when using the most current Slingbox and SlingLoaded products. Future software includes the highly anticipated SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone software launching soon.
Current Slingbox functionality will not be affected if you choose not to upgrade, but software like SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone and future services yet to be announced will only be supported for customers using Slingbox SOLO and Slingbox PRO-HD products or forthcoming SlingLoaded products.
See the page here: http://www.slingmedia.com/go/upgrade
Curious is the omission of the Slingbox PRO from their upgrade program. Taken at face value, it doesn't say the Slingbox PRO will or won't work with future products, like SlingPlayer for iPhone, but you don't get an upgrade incentive if you own one.
The SlingCommunity Team is looking into this. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: We've made some well placed e-mails, and it looks like Slingbox PRO owners will get the best of both worlds. For starters, the Slingbox PRO will work with SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone, and if you call Sling to inquire about an upgrade, it seems you'll also get to take advantage of the sweet $50 rebate. Omission of the PRO from the page apparently wasn't intentional, and will be corrected soon.

Its a forgone conclusion that the latest news about the slinplayer for iphone would draw all this attention again. As the owner of two original Slingboxes I can say this. We won the battle but we lost the war. The owners of the slingboxes that were not compatible with the orignal Slingplayer submitted to Apple have become contented, the ones that already had the ness. equipment to run the slingplayer / iphone app. are mad right now & the ones who went out and upgraded to be able to use the orig. app submission are mad as hell. But just remember the $$$ PRICE $$$ Is still the same. We should all be angry that Hughes/Sling didn't bother to lower the price of this app. seeing that it won't support 3G. But you know what... I'll probably still buy it even without 3G. for two reasons. 1: Hey it still works and i can get my TV fix alot quicker than having to boot my laptop and then load it. 2: its just a matter of time that the jail breaking community figures out how to incorporate 3G. Access. case in point Voipover3g app. for Skype.
Lets have some feedback on these thoughts. all comments are welcome.

If AT&T is blocking the 3G connection in the USA, how could be the situation in other countries? Only WiFi everywhere? And why? As reported on Engadget. com also YouTube videos work in the same way as Slingplayer could do. And Orb too!
Also Blackberry and Nokia phones already uses Slingplayer. So where is the trick?
And about the price at $30 where is reported? There will be no a free Lite version as for Blackberry?

Nimbuzz has updated its iPhone applcation to include VoIP-over-3G call functionality.
Other new functions include support for Twitter and Skype-out.
Skype-out enables users to make low-cost VoIP calls direct to landlines in over 50 countries.
A new dial-up pad interface is included for Skype-out phone calls, with available credit displayed.

FYI: Slingplayer for Iphone is Officially Availible in the Itunes App. Store.
I just purchased it for $29.99 and im putting it through is paces now !
From my immediate impressions of the app i like the Pocket PC version that i had on my Samsung i730 Smartphone. theres simply not enough functionality. It works fine via WIFI but the 1st thing i did notice and its annoying is theres a black border around the entire screen no matter weather you are in Standard Mode or Letterbox Mode. my only hope is that sense i paid 30 bucks for this that future updates will rectify this situation. I also hope thae future improvements wont shut out owners of the original Slingboxes.
If and when you purchase it please leave a reply as to what you think of this app so far.
I have purchased this morning (17.99 GBP in the UK), installed, logged in using my Sling.com account and connected to my Slingbox Classic over Wi-Fi no problem at all.
Great !
Got it this morning and had a quick test before leaving for work, seemed to work fine on my classic. Anyone tried it with a VPN client? Have a open WiFi at work but only accepts VNP traffic (for guests) so was thinking of setting up a VPN into home to stream?
Has anyone tried the new Sling Mobile app for iPhone with the older SlingBox Tuner? I'd like to know if it works before plunking down $30.

I have a question.
Don't you get some sort of time period to try any app bought in the app store. Be it one hour to one day. If it doesn't work. Can't you get a re-fund? Could somone give us some info on this?
Thank You
Is this correct? As far as refund policy goes?

Called Apple Tech Support, who indicated that as long as your device is under warranty that you can request a refund by calling them. Sooooo, I went ahead and downloaded the app and it does in fact work with the SlingBox Tuner!
Slingplayer iphone application is working well with the Sling Classic/Verizon FIOS combination. I just realized yesterday that my remote buttons are all available when I move the screen "right to left". Took me a day to find power-on. LOL. Luckily I usually leave my Fios STB/DVR box on anyway.
The primary issue I am having is that I cannot get the Page-Up and Page-Down buttons to work.
Any suggestions? The Verizon FIOS page-up/page-down work fine on my PC Slingplayer.
Also, I am considering upgrading to Tivo-HD? Any issues with Slingplayer iphone and Tivo functionality.
Thanks.
