Now that the Sling Player has established a permanent home on my desktop, I am starting to thing about new features I would like to see.

First off: I would like a way to save my favorite channels so that they are easier to recall when watching live TV. So, rather than re-entering the same 3-digit channels over and over on the soft remote or from the keyboard, I can use even fewer muscles to click on a custom link(?) in the remote to jump right to CourtTV, the 'W', or even better HBO Latino!

Would be cool if it used the official station logo as the link so I don't even have to remember it more than once.

Favorite Movie: Wedding Slingers

Better video quality!!! That's the most important thing by far.

psywzrd - have you tried the beta build? http://www.slingcommunity.com/article/10309/

there's a definite improvement in video quality...

Jeremy,

I haven't tried the newest beta yet (just saw today that it was posted). I plan to try it later today or tomorrow. I'm a little worried though because I did not notice any improvement when I tried the last beta.

Any word on opening the API to 3rd party developers? I'm interested in creating apps to control the SlingBox, especially the ability to send remote control signals, and tap into the remote control database.

Wow, I just loaded the 1.0.4.105 Beta, much better video. I don't have a great throughput from Texas to Japan. But seeing TV from home is worth every penny. I would like to request better control for my Toshiba DVR (SD-XS32). I can program recordings, watch recordings, but cannot delete the program. I will eventually fill up my drive and need someone to go to my house to delete programs.

Brad,

Is that unit the TiVo-powered one? If so, try out code V0618 and let me know if it works.

Best,
Jeremy

Jeremy,
It is not TiVo powered. V0618 didn't work at all. I currently use V1008. My unit is not subscription based, just HDD and DVD.

Any future plans for a digital cable ready (a la CableCard) Slingbox?

Just wanted to give big props to Sling for the latest Beta - major improvement in picture quality!!! Now if you could only get it to the point where we could watch it at something close to full screen...

Gotta' love the frequent updates too - keep 'em coming!

psywzrd,

Have you updated your video card to the latest drivers? My slingbox is VERY watchable full-screen, and my laptop resolution is 1920x1280...

Best,
Jeremy

I think it would be wise to provide the option to log-off any existing open connections when a new connection is being made. This will be useful when a connection is accidently left open at a different location. The software should inform of the open connection and prompt whether to close it in order to establish the new one. You can require admin pass, though I don't even see why that would be necessary.

MAC COMPATIBILITY!!!!!!

October 5, 2005 11:30 AM

Hello,

I would say, MAC compatibility will be perfect. Is there any comparison between the picture quality offered by WMV9 vs H.264? What would be the standard used for Macs?

Thanks,
Bal

I use the sling player at work. I would like new option to dock the viewer at the top or bottom in addition to the sides.

Also, maybe I missed this option but how about the ability to set the max stream rate while still using slingstream?

Thanks.

Forget the Mac users (both of them). ;-)

A Pocket PC player would be awesome!

Any update on Closed Captions? Is it scheduled for the next release, or some release further out?

November 22, 2005 1:42 PM

Just purchased this box and would love to see the following:

1 - Remote logoff - hate having to run downstairs and "turn off" or flying home to do the same :)

2 - PLEASE let the setup wizard allow me to select what I want to change by CATEGORY such as "remote viewing", "video input etc", "sling player settings" etc. I'm STILL trying to figure out how to reset time between clicks on the remote!

3 - Video remote/encode/setting templates: I have to tweak each player at each PC (olny to loose them at power failure). If I could set and store these in one central location (I mean I AM on a network) and select a template file of my custom settings.

KenW - closed captioning is in the labs, I don't think it will make the very next release, but it's being worked on.

DVDGeek:
1 - agreed, workin' on it
2 - you are basically able to do this right now through the SlingPlayer... go to the Slingbox Directory, click Edit Properties, then select the middle Configuration tab... do you want more than this?
3 - need some more details here, what kinds of tweaks are you doing?

Best,
Jeremy
