Wow, three minutes must be a new record. Perhaps there could be a ongoing tally of people's setup times. It's like a race...
I agree that the setup isn't that hard. Are you using S-vid for your TiVo? The picture is much better than using the yellow cable.

Just set up the Slingbox with my TiVo and it literally took me 3 minutes to get the picture on my computer after I installed the SlingPlayer. Unbelievably easy. Not we'll see what happens when I take it abroad this weekend!
Definitely S-vid. It's the only way to go!
How long did it take you to set up?
It took me about an hour, but not because the Slingbox is hard to setup. I had a heck of a time fighting the mess of wires that hook up all my stuff. You know, back in the old days, it was one wire to connect the antenna to the TV. I swear I have 100 cables back there to hook up 5 things. It's crazy!
Actually, the Slingbox was easy to setup. the headphone shaped audio/video jacks confused me a little, but I figured it out soon enough. The next hardest part was finding where to place the flasher doohickey on my cable box. The software was simple. It basically set itself up!
I take it you didn't run into any problems setting it up?
No problems. Had an extra output from my TiVo that I used and already had an ethernet connection running to the area to my Media Center, so I just switched it out. Sling did everything else!
Isn't that convenient. I WISH I had an ethernet jack near my stuff. I had to buy a Wi-Fi bridge to get it to work, like the one in the Slingbox Review on this site.
I hear that there are powerline adapters out there, too. Are those easy to set up? I have a friend that wants a Slingbox, but he doesn't want to drop 80-100 bucks on a bridge.
Powerline bridges are extremely easy to set up, typically they have no configuration settings whatsoever. You just plug em in and go!
Best,
Jeremy
Thanks Jeremy! That does sound easy. Much easier than the WiFi bridge I had to deal with. You know, I'd be curious how many folks are relying on WiFi to get the Slingbox working. If the proportion was large enough, why not just build in an 802.11b card into the Slingbox?
Buy.com is selling a pair of IOGear Powerline adapters for 68.99. (I don't work for 'em, they've just got some good deals on networking gear going on.)
I got 2 NetGear XE102 Powerline's free (after rebates) with the purchase of my SlingBox at CompUSA this week. The SlingBox works great with the Powerlines, which are a breeze to setup (even configuring them for encryption).
I never realized Powerline technology had it's own set of standards. Pretty cool!
Marevas-
How did you get that deal at Compusa? I looked on the website and didn't see any infor and i couldn't find the ad online for this week. Before I go to the store I wanted to know what the deal was exactly so I can call and get it before I go. THanks.
How did you get that deal at Compusa?
I believe the deal was prominently displayed in a SlingBox ad on their web site. Guess it was for one week only.
These were the deals going on last week...it took six rebate forms, but I got 2 Netgear XE102's for free.

I'd been wanting to try powerline adapters and took advantage of the CompUSA offer since the net cost after floating CompUSA a free loan (a.k.a. "rebate") would be zero.
The main reason I didn't get them before is because I was pretty sure they wouldn't work in the old wiring in my house.
Sure enough, I was right. They didn't work -- not even when plugged into wall sockets 6 feet apart. But at least after I get the rebates I'm not out anything.
Lee,
Did you try them in multiple outlets? We've done a lot of testing, and the reliability tends to be quite high. Did the LEDs indicate any activity whatsoever?
Best,
Jeremy
BTW, NETGEAR wanted to disallow my $20 rebates because they weren't accompanied by the original UPC code.
I sent a somewhat terse email. They responded back asking for the offer number. I laid out the offer numbers and instructions (orig. UPC for the $25 rebate and a copy for the $20 rebate), and they approved it!
