I have a 4 channel modulator in front of my sling box so I can have 5 devices which I select by changing the channel of my TV. (IE sat is on chan 22, dvd on chan 31, ld on 56, etc). Right now the sling box assumes you are on cable if you select the coax, or if you select cable box it wants a channel number like 3 or 4. It would be nice to not have that limitation. Also the remote control should allow you to have support for many devices.

Completely and totally agree. The Sling Box should support IR commands for AV Switching devices....furthermore, they should ultimately create a user configurable 'universal' GUI remote so you can control your whole home media setup.

Any thoughts as to why remote channel changing might not work. Set up at home ok and audio/video available at remote site from sling

Did you test the channel changing from home before leaving? If it worked, and now it doesn't, can you 100% verify that nobody at home (including a pet - yes, it's happened) has accidentally moved the IR cables?

I have the exact same setup, but I don't understand what is broken. I know Sling doesn't currently have the ability to "remote" more than one device, but beyond that, is something else broken?

Also, with the new beta version of the software they have made a step forward, by allowing you to switch devices, but still no remote changes... I posted this on the issues list for the new version.

smileyw,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'no remote changes' - what were you looking for?

Best,

Perhaps he means the ability to switch between multiple 'virtual' remotes, one per selectable input.

I've not bought a Slingbox myself yet, because it currently lacks the flexibility to support the way I want to use it. Like Brian, I have a 4 input modulator, though in my case it's hooked up to 3 TiVos and the zone 2 output of my preamp.

I'd like to hook up the zone 2 output of my preamp to a slingbox as well, but to be useful, that would require the slingbox software to have a 'virtual' remote emulated for each source I tell the preamp to route to zone 2.

I know you are working on DVR remote codes and upgrades primarily right now. Just a reminder, however, if you begin to upgrade and add more remote codes for DVD players, the issue with Sony DVD players that have 3 different remote codes depending on which of the hard switching settings you set on the player and the remote control. I have three 400-disc Sony DVD players each set two one of the three settings, but I can only control the one that is set to remote code #1. I have noticed this feature on a number of other (single or 5-disc) sony DVD players as well.

Thanks for all the great work and customer service for the greatest new product since TIVO.

David,

I still have your DVD player on my to-do list, I'll get in touch when I have something ready to try.

Thanks Jeremy. I can't wait to be the remote master of my dvd collection.

A lot of people throw around the phrase "the best" but you really are. Thanks for all your hard work on all our special requests.

I'm in the same boat as David -- I bought a second Slingbox to connect with my 400 disc Sony DVD player, but I need it to control remote code #2.

I'm extremely happy with my Slingbox-to-ReplayTV setup, however. What a great product!

Brian,

I'm in the same boat as you on the modulator setup. It will be useful to have another type of source input for people with modulators, namely, "Coaxial/RF-Modulator".

In this modulator mode, one can assign remote code to any channel. In your example, Ch22->BrandX Satellite remote, Ch31->BrandY DVD remote, Ch56->BrandZ LD remote, etc.

The normal sling tuner remote remains visible at all times to switch cable channels. When those channels with assigned remotes are tuned to, the corresponding remote will be visible (in addition to the SlingBox tuner remote).

E.g. tuning Ch21 will only show the SlingBox tuner remote. Tuning to Ch22 will show the additional BrandX Satellite remote. Tuning to Ch31 will show the BrandY DVD remote, but not the BrandX Satellite remote.

This approach will expand the number of available "inputs" on the SlingBox tremendously.

Jeremy,
What I am talking about is the ability to switch between two different "devices" For example, if I have my DVD player on channel 70, I want to be able to switch to channel 70, and have it control the DVD. If my Tivo is on 72, I want to be able to switch to channel 72, and control the Tivo. Right now, the only stations you can use are 2-4. That doesn't work for anyone that uses modulators as most of them run on UHF. I think AVGear gave you basically the same scenario.
