The Ultimate TV remote is now picking up its skin. Cool!

There are some buttons that are not labled. There are are buttons that are hidden.

I have labled the buttons / places where the remote needs to be updated and uploaded the image. Anywhere you see text on the image, it's my handywork. The buttons were otherwise blank or not marked.

I recently upgraded to the latest Beta (1.04.105) on both my laptop and tower PCs, however the start up doesn't seem to recognize this. As I start Slingbox, a box always pops up saying that a "new software version is available (version: 1.0.33) for this Slingbox (current version : 1.0.19)" then click "yes" to up date. If I click no, the slingbox starts perfectly and a click of the help button shows that I have version 1.0.4.105.
---How do I get rid of this pop-up?

The version numbering you describe (1.0.19 and 1.0.33) is for the firmware on the Slingbox itself. It would probably be better to update the firmware than ignore the nag message. The new firmware, minimally, improves the transmission rate and picture quality.

Before you proceed, you might have better luck downloading the newest beta (1.04.106). It has newer firmware (1.0.36) that fixes an issue where people were having to reset their Slingboxes manually after updating the firmware.

Sherman,

Can you email me your picture? The community site automatically shrinks it down and I can't really see the problems.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Thanks Sherman,
That did it, I didn’t make the distinction between the firmware for the box and the upgrade number for the viewer.

I updated to version 1.0.4.106 but I'm not seeing any changes to the remote for viewing recorded shows on a Scientific Atlanta 8000 DVR. Are these not included in this Beta version? I was hoping to have a List button for viewing DVR features (what's been recorded/saved, setup options for recording etc), and a, b, c buttons...

Just upgraded to 106 and am using an original standalone Sony SVR-2000. I'm using the V0636 remote settings and the Live TV button has not worked since installing the 105 beta the other day.

To anyone whose remote control got WORSE after installing 105 or 106, please make sure you go through the steps to repeat the IR setup. If you are still experiencing problems, let me know!

Best,
Jeremy

Wow. Wow wow wow wow WOW! New firmware is MUCH better than even the previous Beta and the new Slingplayer as well! Y'all must've done a huge job on the TCP/IP stack as the box now reliably slings across the 'net as fast as it does at home. The new 'player also does a bang up job at getting optimized much sooner and getting into streaming mode. The 'box also seems to have much less of an issue with fast motion at high bitrates, previously it would stutter or falter but now is much MUCH smoother if not absolutely 100% perfect. I also see far fewer incidences of the Slingplayer 'dumping' it's buffer and skipping buffered content to 'catch up' so to speak.

Now, the feature requests:

I know it's coming but I'll reiterate. PLEASE give us picture controls, contrast, brightness, saturation etc. Also, is the hardware capable of higher bitrate audio streaming? Ideally I'd like 128Kbps for the audio but anything would help. I know the 'box can output the higher total datarate, I see 1600Kbps regularly.

Re: picture controls

try this!

slingbox->properties->slingbox configuration->
audio/video set-up

admin password->next
connection to your slingbox->next
audio/video settings

this screen has all the color, brightness, contrast, & hue settings you can adjust.

I hadn't seen that before, thanks! My only problem is that different material and channels have different settings. It'd be nice to have this option within the Slingplayer as a menu bar item.

Well don't know if 106 was supposed to have the remote fixes. But my DTiVo and SA TiVo, still have the problem with the clear button on Now Playing, that 105 gave me.

Jeremy, did find the Cancel in the remote panel tho!

And yes reran the ir setup...on both of them, and updated firmware, just in case.

alexcue - its working exactly correctly for me! are your tivos set for remote address 0 or other?

beefman - the color settings are "per-input" so you can tweak them for different devices. the channel/favorites feature doesn't allow for multiple sets at this time (already jotted down for the future)

jeremy

Hi, I still have the following 3 issues with 106 (same as 105):
A few things I have noticed on 1.0.4.105:
#1. (minor): The "list" button is greyed out on my remote after I got the "new" Tivo interface. (By the way, the new remote is great!) I have a HD Tivo (10-250), and used "DirecTV with Tivo 1" (I have 2 tivo's so 0 will not work).
#2. (cosmetic, but odd): In trying to get the "list" button to work, I re-ran the setup again, and chose "tivo 1". This time it gave me the old style remote. (I managed to switch back with no issues.)
#3. (feature request for release version): I really like the ability to switch between different sources, but it isn't really useful unless I can assign some more remotes. In my house, I use video modulators, so several devices are shown on specific channels. So, I would like to be able to tell it that my Tivo is on s-video, and a Sony DVD player is on Coax/channel 22 for example. This is the one thing that sling is missing to make it perfect! There is another request for exactly the same thing here: http://www.slingcommunity.com/forum/thread/10294/
Also, you can only select 2-4 on channels when trying to setup something off coax. I can't even use my custom channel numbers at all which basically means I can't use this very cool feature becuase it isn't fully implemented yet.

Jeremy, I'm using 0 code. The 2 code for my humax DRT800 (TiVo), gave me the generic remote Not the TiVo remote. It keeps sending me to live tv on both after rerunning the setup.

October 2, 2005 3:21 PM

Jeremy-I re-ran the device setup after installing 105 and again after installing 106 (mainly 'cause I hoped there'd be a choice for "Sony" Tivo.) ;-)

October 2, 2005 3:30 PM

I can confirm issues with D*Tivo remotes. I'm using a series 1 Hughes DirecTivo, and find that remote address 0 works great. However, when I try remote address 1, I find that the liveTV button is actually performing quick skip, and the clear button is actually going to live TV. Also, the new list button is greyed out when I use address 1. I have repeatedly redone the IR setup to rule out any possibility of the new map not having been loaded. So address 0 is working fine for me, but with the other address codes, -or at least address 1- the mapping is somewhat messed up. I haven't tried any codes other than 0 and 1 btw.

Jeremy, I think i know what may be the problem, i was used to using the "backspace" key to mimic Clear . This is the way it worked before. Since the Clear button is with the #'s screen which doesn't show with the left screen up on my laptop, i was still using it.

When i finally tried the clear button directly on full screen it finally worked. Anyway to get the shortcut back of "backspace" to function as the Clear button?

Sorry for the hastle, but an FYI that this is still with the Zero code, and that the 2 code remote still doesn't work right, as reported above.

October 3, 2005 1:14 AM

I noticed that if while performing the IR setup you select address 0, the first test it presents is the "power button" test. However, if you select any other address code, the test presented is the old "channel up" test.

Seems to suggest that the new IR maps for address codes 1-4 on both models of DTivos were accidentally left out perhaps?

October 3, 2005 1:21 AM

Ok, here's an issue that's not causing any problems, but is a bug nonetheless.

After some period of inactivity, -an hour or so I think-, the LAN light on the Slingbox begins to blink slowly, seemingly indicating a loss of connectivity. However, it's really still online, and the light goes back solid as soon as I connect to it.

I assigned the IP to the Slingbox statically. It's 10.0.0.11 on network 10.0.0.0 with subnet 255.255.255.0.

Re: TiVo addresses 1-4, its not that they were 'left out' per se, its that we were able to improve address 0, but weren't able to improve the others yet. We will in the future!

Re: the slow blinking light, this is a known issue, here's some more info: http://www.slingcommunity.com/forum/thread/10361/

Best,
Jeremy
