I've set up my slingbox with the latest slingplayer software (1.0.4.107) and the latest firmware (1.0.36).

The problem I'm having, is I have 2 TiVo's hooked into the slingbox:

1 DirecTiVo, using TiVo remote code 1 (composite in) and
1 series 1 TiVo using TiVo remote code 3 (coax in).

When running slingplayer, only the last TiVo set up will provide a remote while running. If I switch sources, the video will switch, but no remote will pop up (and the remote icon is greyed out).
If I pretend one of the units is, say, a cd player when setting it up, then both remotes show up during source switching, but if I set both to TiVo's, then it doesn't work.

Any help solving this problem would be appreicated.

voodoo,

For each input, did you select "External device", and select the appropriate IR codes? The only time the remote icon goes gray is when the Slingbox informs the SlingPlayer there's no AV device present, which is determined during configuration.

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, Thanks for the quick response.

First of all, I've also tried a hard reset on the Slingbox with a full re-setup, and still have the same problem.

Only the coax setup has a choice for "External box" (versus "Internal tuner").

Here's how I set up each input, step-by-step:
(From the Slingbox Directory, choosing the Slingbox, and hitting the "Edit Properties" / "Audio/Video Setup" buttons)

Coax (With a Series 1 TiVo attached):

Choose "External Box"
Choose "DVR (Digital Video Recorder)"
Choose "TiVo"
Choose "TiVo (remote address 3)"
Test "Power"
Set "Channel Changing" page settings to "005" (no "Enter"), "Medium", & then test channel change
Save changes & Setup says "Completed Successfully".

Composite (With a DirecTiVo attached):

Choose "Satellite Receiver"
Choose "TiVo"
Choose "DirecTV with TiVo (remote address 1)"
Test "Power"
Set "Channel Changing" page settings to "005" (no "Enter"), "Medium", & then test channel change
Save changes & Setup says "Completed Successfully".

As I said yesterday, when I then run the Slingplayer software, I only get a remote on whichever input I last set up.
When I change the video input, the signal switches, but I get no remote for the second input. If I switch back, the original gets its remote.

The only way I can get a TiVo remote for the other input is to got through the "Audio/video Setup".

Thanks again for your help on this.

I am having the identical problem. I have two TiVos also with remote addresses 1 & 3. One is connected via coax and another via composite.

Whichever I configure last then gets the remote and the other does not (grayed out).

Edit: I should add that both of mine are Series 2 standalone models.

gobills, its nice to hear I'm not the only one having this problem.

It sounds as if the Slingbox doesn't currently play nicely with multiple TiVos.

Jeremy, any further thoughts from Sling?

Thanks,

voodoo

We're taking a look at it, will report back ASAP.

If it helps at all let me add that I did *not* do a hard reset of the slingbox after the last firmware update.

Voodoo pointed me over here from my other thread ... sorry, I didn't mean to open up a duplicate issue. I can confirm I'm experiencing the same issue as voodoo, with my two TiVo's (Remote Address "1" and "2").

Series 1 on the Composite, Series 2 on the Coax.

Hi,

Mixed news here, folks. We know what the issue is, and we've got a fix in the works, but are not sure when the next build is coming.

For a workaround: if you are using more than one TiVo, and one is the default address, and the other is address 1 through 4, go through the configuration steps in an order that has you configure the default one first, and the alternate address input second, and you should have most IR functionality working fine for you.

I'll let you know when we have a 'real' fix for this!

Best,
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for confirmation of the issue.

Your work around is also appreciated, but the problem with that solution is the default TiVo will respond whenever the other TiVo (address 1 through 4) is accessed. TiVos set to the default IR code will react to any TiVo remote code, and since the two units share IR emitters.....

Anyway, not a huge deal, and I for one appreicate that upgrades such as tuner switching are coming at all.

Please let me know as soon as a public beta for the next build is available, I'd love to play with it.

I too have the same problem. The workaround is not really an option, as anyone who would be trying to control two tivos from one slingbox would not be able to effectively utilize the "default" tivo controller. That would result in BOTH tivos responding to the commands. Even though the viewer will only see one, the unseen tivo could end up doing such things as deleting programs, etc. On the other hand, I'm glad that Tech suppoprt knows that there is a problem and is working on a fix. I would also be willing to help with a beta if needed.

It happens to me too - my TiVo 1 and TiVo 2 are fighting over the remote. Fortunately the software is designed well enough that I can reconfigure whenever I switch, and that seems to work fine. (The "other" remote is tagged as "other"). Thank you for this forum - I thought I was going nuts until I found it.

Any updates to this thread I have the samew problem

January 17, 2006 12:35 PM

I had the same problem - two Tivos connected but only one remote control. If you d/l the bet SlingPlayer and let it update your Slingbox with the latest (beta) firmware this will work.

After the upgrade you have to re-do the setup for both Tivos, but your reward will be two working remotes.

voodoo:

I have three ReplayTV's (5040 models - 300 GB HD's)networked with my SB. I have no problem accessing each unit with the same remote. Probably due to the RTV O.S. allowing you to network easier. Anyway - it works great!

Good luck.

JeremyT, Thanks for the info.  I have two Sony DVP-CX995V 400 Disk CD/DVD players attached to an Original SlingBox.  For a year, they worked fine.  After the latest firmware upgrade, however, I can only select ONE DVD player.  I don't even have the option of overwriting the other.  In order to use the second, I have to reprogram the first to something unrelated and then program the second.  And to go back, I'd have to reprogram the second to something unrelated to either the DVD or whatever I chose to reprogram the first one to and then reprogram the first back to the DVD settings.  It seems that the TIVO problem is not as bad as mine.  Will the BETA fix this as well??  I have two other SlingBoxes.  Will upgrading to the BETA require a firmware upgrade that would affect them too?  I am leary about fixing one problem on one machine if it will possibly create a new problem on the other two as BETAs are buggy, which is why they are only a BETA, not an upgrade.

CocoTel - you've resurrected a thread from over a year ago. The version being talked about is long out of beta and released. Have you updated your software and firmware to the current levels? That's the first thing to do before trying to troubleshoot it - it may not be an issue any longer.
