I use the AV input to deliver sound on the Svideo input connection for my DVD. Will I damage anything if I use the "unused" video input to connect a nanny cam to view the premises? I don't mind having the extraneous sound on the cam setup but I don't won't want to see any "magic gas" escape when I made the connection.

You can hook up three video sources - one composite, one s-video, one RF and switch between them. (there are ways to hook up more devices)

Your first two sources are direct connections - s-video and composite. If you want sound for both s-video and composite you will need to get a Y-adapter to handle two audio inputs and then just remember to always turn off or mute the source that you aren't watching.

Your third video source is via the RF connector. I just use the internal tuner since it doesn't require another IR emitter. You can hook up anything that puts out an RF signal and tune to that channnel to watch it. If the two IR emitters are already in use for the s-video and composite inputs you will need to add a third one if the device you attach needs IR control.

This may seem like overkill, but I am using a Radio Shack S-video/Composite switch (4 inputs one output).

This switch uses IR light (no code per se) to switch - any IR code by the way - so you can step through 4 video inputs (audio also).

This allows you to add 4 audio/video feeds to one of the inputs of the Slingbox.

You program the radio shack multi-switch to an unused IR command from your existing device (such as stop or rewind or some such. That way it does not interfere with what you primarily us the IR blaster for.

I use the Sima SVS-4 audio/video switch (found one for $30 on eBay). It automatically switches between devices as soon as it detects a device is on - you don't even need to send any IR signals.

That is a good idea. I don't know if Simi is still around and like Radio Shack these consumer electronic devices have a limited lifespan.

My application needs all devices live all the time (I am just monitoring them from a distance) - but you certainly have another good idea about how to do this.

Just a quick comment on the Radio Shack 15-1927. It is designed for component, not composit, video. However I got one today and tried it out, and it works just fine plugging the composit into one of the component jacks.

I now have 4 security cameras around my house set up on my slingbox so that I can remotely access and switch between them. Thanks to Mini and bb80301 for the tip.

I have cable going into the rf input, security cameras going into the composit input and DirecTV going into the S-video on the Slingbox. Works great. I've only had the Slingbox for 2 days now, but already can't live without it.

Can anyone give me a link to an example of this y adaptor as mentioned above, as I'm stuggling to figure out which is the right one to get.

Well, if you are using a Slingbox Classic, then you plug the provided cable into the input on the Slingbox.  The opposite ends are all in RCA connectors.  You'd then connect a Y-cable to the red and white audio lines.  It would be a Y connector with 2 male RCA plugs and 1 female RCA jack:
