My wife is convinced I'm an "Early adopter techno geek" so when we got to our vacation place in the Mexican boonies, we tried our satellite tv - no luck. The sat-box down there needed to be re-hit, and we had no way of contacting Star-Choice. She was convinced she was going to miss her soaps, but step up "Sling-Box". My satellite internet connection was working fine, I logged on thru my notebook - and "Voila" ! British soaps streaming flawlessly over the net (via Canada) to Mexico. Safe to say that she is now a believer, and we may even leave one down there with a web-cam attached to see whats going on while we are not there.

Hello Keith...We live in Ontario Canada and are going to our "casa" in Mexico for 3 months this winter. I understand the the product isn't yet available in Canada so I am planning on going across the border to buy one.

We have ADSL through Telmex/Prodigy down south and I was wondering if you had any thoughts about whether that will be sufficient to get a decent download from Slingbox?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Dave I've got Starband satellite internet down there, (Bahia de Los Angeles), and it worked great with the Slingbox. I'm not an authority on DSL, but you would think that the "broadband" system would allow the Slingbox to work. You may need to check the downlink speeds from your provider, but again, as it's broadband, you would think it would work. We actually live in San Diego, and go through a broker to get Starchoice, which is pretty much all we watch. Good luck.

I work in Moscow, Russia, and I am trying to get my NY based sligbox to work with a satellite internet connection at my home outside of Moscow, where I don't have a broadband connection. The concept of the system set up for me is that all outgoing signals go over my phone line, and the incoming signals and data come through the much faster satellite connection. This works fine for all my online needs, email, surfing the net, but I can't get the slingbox player on my Moscow computer to work this way. Both outgoing and incomming signals are going through the slow phone connection. Can anyone help me understand how to set up the slingbox player to work with this phone/satellite set up so that the incoming signal will come through the satellite dish?
Many thanks,
JSR

Another trip to our place in Baja - over thanksgiving, and just crossed the border when i realised that we hadn't brought our spare Star-Choice box. I thought for a minute about turning back, but then put total faith in my Sling box setup.
Upon arrival, I hooked up my notebook, connected the notebook S-Video out to my TV, and Voila, a picture that was of acceptable quality, and all my Soccer games - live (along with the wifes Brit soaps !) - Awesome !!

Have operated slingbox in Mexico City on Telmex/Prodigy with no problems. After switching to cablevision cable broadband I cannot get out any more, my Motorola SBG900 modem settings seem o.k. (port forwarding, NAT, Firewall all checked). Anyone else have experience with Cablevision ?
