As far as I know this is the latest firmware. When there is a new one, it will appear when you hit the update button.

How do I download the latest firmware version. My slingbox has firmware version: 1.0.36. Is this the latest version/ When I follow the prompts for updating the firmware, I am asked to browse to the new firmware which I do not know how to find.

The current firmware version is 1.0.36 and the current player is version 1.0.4.107.
When you launch the SlingPlayer, click view, SlingBox directory and edit properties buttons, on the Information tab, under Identity you will find the entry for firmware version and get the number of the firmware you have installed on your SlingBox.
From with in the SlingPlayer, you can click on help and about Sling player for the player version number as well.

1.0.36 is included in the 1.0.4.107 build of the SlingPlayer. Instructions for updating can be found in the Slingbox FAQ.

Problem is in the home network, logged in as administrator the Update firmware is greyed out. What am I doing wrong? This is on a laptop connected directly to the router via Ethernet.

Ok got it to work, was my firewall. But problem is the last December verison of the Slingbox software is what I have when pressing on update firmware it says: new version not availabe in brakcets and old verion 10.19 from 7/27/2005. This is with Version 1.0.4.107 that I have installed.
Do I need to download the beta software and update from there?

The new SlingPayer version 1.0.5.140 will detect the firmware upgrade requirement when you launch it. MAKE SURE you are on the HOME network in order to do this. Otherwise it will not work or do this for you.
