If I just connect a Slingbox (any slingbox) to say, a Sky DigiBox in the UK, using either the composite or S-Video link, will it work?
I know the frame rate is slightly different between the NTSC and PAL, but all the talk on the forums mentions a tuner. If I take that out of the equation with a DVR, or other set-top-box, won't it just work? Or does the current software on the SlingBox not handle the subtle video differences.
Just trying to understand whether the UK version of the SlingBox is just missing a PAL tuner, or if it's also missing PAL video handling at the moment (since they're not at all the same thing!)
I ask because I'm considering one for my UK home as well as my US one, and my UK home has a Sky box, so I couldn't care less about hooking something up the antenna input.
Thx

gunther, is that due to it not being possible (some IR blaster version dont work with european appliances) or because you havent found a way of reprogramming the remotes on the slingbox?
If so there is a tutorial on how to program the remote!

I have a US Slingbox connected to a PAL Sky+ box using the S-Video input with no problems whatsoever.
The picture is great, with no missing bottom lines as I had expected might happen.
I was able to use the tutorial on this site to set-up full remote control access too, so I can control the Sky+ box from the PC, through the Slingplayer.
The only issue I have had so far is that I had to reload the remote settings after power-cycling the Slingbox.
Interestingly, AV Properties on the SlingPlayer reports an S-Video "PAL" input signal.
Cheers,
Iain
Its interesting that you say there a no problems with this Iain. I tried this with my PAL DVD player here in the US, and the screen was cutoff as would be expected. However I have not tried this since the firmware upgrade and I am wondering if that introduced the capability?
Mike
Just tested this myself again this evening, and with the new firmware it certainly works! Can't wait for my UK Freeview!

WOW - I bought a SlingBox recently in LA (I live in Australia).
I'll have to find a Set-top Box with SVideo out to see whether I can use my US SlingBox here in Australia.
Well, I hooked up a DVD player with both SVideo and Composite Out and they both worked fine. Didn't appear to be any cropping problems.
Can't wait to hookup a digital TV stb and see whether it supports 16:9 properly.
Yay - my Slingbox is now useful!
Hausofmaus,
can you please tell me how to set the remote so that it will work with the sky box?
thanks
Stefan P,
On your question about sky box, this link is very helpful:

Where did you guys in Europe buy your Slings? I'm finding most US stores don't ship outside of the US. I'm in UK. Cheers.
I bought mine from Amazon.com and imported with a remailing service offered by Parcels2go.com
I'm not sure I can really recommend them though, it was quite cheap, but the parcel took about 5 weeks to arrive and they did not give me much information about it en route, or reply to my emails.
Still, having said that - it did arrive safely in the end!
I am in the UK and am using the Sling on my SKY set up box. It was working in PAL perfectly. (without a remote control function)
I downloaded the beta software and it has put flashing lines in the video feed now. (mostly green)
The old software was fine. Any ideas?
Im also using sky digital box, upgraded to latest beta, and am not having a problem with green lines. Try disabling/enabling the VMR9 support.
Andrew
