I've just got two Slingboxes, one for the house in the U.S. and the other I'm planning on sending one to the U.K. and having it control a Freeview (OTA Free Digital TV) box to get about 30 U.K. channels from my homeland. Has anyone tried this yet? I know the U.S. version can handle PAL on the Composite and SVIDEO inputs because I've tried it this weekend with a PAL source... I plan on taking the SCART connection from the freeview box and connecting it into Svideo & Audio inputs using a Scart/Svideo converter - should work without a problem. My concern is controlling the Freeview box... anyone given this a shot yet? any Freeview box seem more controllable with the IR blaster than another? Should I stick to a brand like Philips or Thompson (RCA) in an attempt to possibly get a matching code? Any help would be great...

"Freeview" isn't a brand, it's a description. There are many different brands and models of FTA boxes and they all use different remote codes, so while people may have had success setting up some of them, they may have had problems setting up others. So your opeing question is too vague.

If you'd like to check in advance to see which FTA boxes we have upgrades for, check these two folders...

Then, if you need guidance on how to add these codes, check this...

Jimbo, what version of firmware were you using when you tested your PAL input? I tried this and the image was cut off.

Thanks
Mike

It was the latest code version and client software (1.0.4.107 client & 1.0.36 firmware). In the information tab within the client for my slingbox it shows PAL as being the source under the current AV input... works great...

Jimbo, don't forget about converting the power for the UK as well. I have been streaming SKY for a couple of months from my house in the UK. I have had no luck as yet using IR blaster - I rely on my neighbour!

tim_f - thanks for that! The Sling has landed in the U.K. and my friends are installing this weekend or early next week for me. I'm connecting to a cheap Sagem Freeview box (30 pounds - Argos) - hopefully I can find an IR code to at least do channel up/down changing on it. I checked the power supply that came with the Slingbox before I shipped it over and it was multi-voltage (110-250 50/60hz) so I just added a US to UK plug adapter to the kit I sent - I should be o.k, if not a trip to Tandy will solve this. Looking forward to streaming some good British TV ;-)

Hopefully my friends can pull off the installation - if not, i'm over in January and will work through it then. Hoping to watch some good British Christmas TV shows this year so hopefully they'll get it going.

If This does not work, then I'll wait for the official PAL Slingbox version to be launched and upgrade.

Jimbo:
How did it go with the installation? Are all remote control functions working? Which Sagem model do you use?

I'm looking into getting a DVB-T box myself and would like to know if it works with the Slingbox before buying it.

Due to some installer setbacks in the U.K. (that is, the host of my slingbox can't get it working right) I'm forced to delay until I visit the U.K. in January when i can lay hands on it myself. I'll let you know then how it goes... My biggest issue is going to be the remote control stuff and it's probably best that I'm on-site to test a few things out in this case and see if we can work through it... Hopefully the Sagem will work, if not then i'll be forced to call over there to get a channel changed which is not the most efficient way of handing it!

SUCCESS -

Last night I got the Slingbox up and running with the SAGEM STB and have most of the remote functions working including Power/Guide/Info/Channel UP & Down and the Keypad numbers etc after creating a new remote definition using the Remote Master program. I can't get the interactive stuff to work (Red Button) but I don't care about that stuff really.

If anyone needs further info or the Remote Master files for SAGEM STB's let me know.

Jimbo:
That's great that you got it working!

What SAGEM model are you using? Could you upload the remote master file to Robmans forum? He has made a special area on hifi-remote.com for Slingbox upgrades:

Jimbo,

Same query as Cyroc. Which model Sagem and any chance of you loading those remote master files? Cheers!

January 12, 2006 6:09 AM

It's a Sagem ITD 58 which is the entry level box available from Argos in the U.K. for 29.99

Seeing as my manual refrences all the Sagem ITD range i'd expect my Remote Master file to work for all models but don't hold me to that...

I'll post it up there very shortly.

Jimbo. I´ll be getting myself a Sagen ITD 58 so as to make good use of your trail blazing with the codes. Could you send me this code (or post it to the forum above)? Many thanks!

It's out there... Think I got it to post o.k. Have fun. if problems let me know and i'll send it to you directly.

Jimbo, Philgee.... how are you finding the reliability of the Sagem? Just got my US Slingbox today, and planning on getting a freeview box when I'm home next week.

Sagem has been good. Only a few bug related resets on occasion that has cased it to self-reboot. I'd recommend it. I've never had to have anyone go and power cycle it if that's a factor for you.
