Hi,
can the Sling guys talk to the folks at Streamzap and/or Firefly and convince them to include the SlingPlayer in their application support? Their PC Remote supports ITunes, Media Center and almost 100 programs, how cool it would be to switch channels etc on the Sling Player with a remote and not having to use the keyboard.
Since I could not find one out there anywhere, I created a Firefly profile for SlingPlayer. You can find it on the FireFly forums at the following link.
http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/showt...
If you want the FireFly button to launch SlingPlayer for you, then past the following lines into your Global.xml profile.
</Actions>
<Actions Button="Firefly" Description="SlingPlayer">
<SwitchAppAction ActivationState="Down" Executable="C:\Program Files\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\SlingPlayer.exe" IfAlreadyShowing="MINIMIZE" State="RESTORE">
<Identifier ClassName="TScreenForm" ClassNameComparer="Contains" FileName="" FileNameComparer="CaseInsensitiveContains" WindowText="SlingPlayer" WindowTextComparer="Contains"></Identifier>
</SwitchAppAction>
funchords - I don't think I understand your directions - wouldn't this be for the SLINGBOX to control the pc and not the other way around?
I would love to see my streamzap remote control the slingplayer software...

Mark, streamzap doesn't support slingplayer. Plus you'd really want a keyboard to remote mapping program since the remote device maybe different each time you use your slingplayer. You'd want to get a remote supported by HiP like the MCE OEM remote or the AIW remote. You can map the remote to control whatever device the slingbox's controlling. In my case I use slingplayer to control a remote MCE server.
Streamzap does work with Slingplayer (generically speaking). I just bought the Streamzap remote for $40 locally. I have Slingplayer 1.4 (or whatever the latest version is) and I have a DirecTV / R10 / TIVO satellite receiver.
It would be nice if Streamzap was fully compatible with Slingplayer in the same manner Streamzap is fully compatible with WinAmp and other apps. However, as a generic remote (ie used out of the box), it more than meets my needs with the SlingPlayer. Because it's not fully compatible with Slingplayer, I can't do some things like: channel up/down, pause live tv, access the Program Guide directly etc. I can however, do the following: volume up/down, power off, exit application, type in channel numbers, revisit last channel, FULLY access my TIVO programming and FULLY do all my TIVO things (except type in keywords in search), access the Program guide indirectly, change header bar style, and I think that covers it.
How is this possible? Slingpayer can be operated with keyboard input. If you type in digits on the keyboard, then the slingplayer changes accordingly. If you type in a shortcut key like "m" for example, you might get the Tivo Menu. Volume/sound is independent of applications, so the streamzap works with any app. Full kb shortcuts are available on the web.
So, the streamzap remote, at a generic level, can emulate a simple keyboard. If you press a digit on the remote, you're basically punching in a number on the keyboard, and thus punching in a number in the slingplayer. In my setup, I noticed that that left arrow gets me to my TIVO menu. Up/down arrow navigates TIVO menu, and right arrow selects TIVO menu choices.
Some tips:
1) the IR receiver is sensitive for me ... if I point the IR window away from the remote, I get best performance. otherwise, I get "double entering" effect of numbers.
2) piping the slingplayer sound through a wireless transmitter to a stereo system (car or house) improves sound greatly.
I have slingbox classic. One of my co-workers said a remote comes with the PRO or AV... not sure if that's true. But anyway, it's only a matter of time before a full fledged remote is made for the masses to use out of the box.. Changing channels on the Slingplayer with a remote is awesome.

If using the Generic StreamZap remote "out of the box" does not fit your fancy (because you can't do some things like channel up/down), then there's a very EASY solution to "build" a StreamZap to FULLY emulate a real remote control. For example, I have a TIVO DVR R10 DirecTV setup. It would be nice to channel up/down, have one button access to the Guide, be able to press Record, press the Instant Replay button, etc. The only thing I don't care about is the Thumbs UP/DOWN feature.
It is very cool that I have StreamZap remote control that does everything that my R10 DirecTV remote does.
All you need is the following:
1) Download the free EventGhost software. An alternative is Girder which costs $$$... I haven't tried Girder, but more people seem to be gravitating towards the free EventGhost software for the problem described above (turning a generic StreamZap remote into a fully customized remote)
2) About a 1 hour of time or less depending on how quickly you pick up the nuances of EventGhost. make sure you have the latest EventGhost which is 03.4. Note you may need to install 0.3.3 first to get 0.3.4 to work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Directions
1) "close out" or disable the StreamZap service/software. else you'll get error messages in Event Ghost (or Girder for that matter). From this point on, you won't ever need StreamZap system tray drivers again.
2) open EventGhost after installation.
3) EventGhost takes a while to get used to its interface. When you first log in, you get a whole bunch of "default" stuff. Clear all this out by creating a new project/workspace.
4) Add the plug-in for streamzap by going through the wizard. you now have a workspace just for streamzap.
5) the only things you'll need to know how to do are add macros and events. in my project, each button on the remote corresponds to one new macro/event. So on my streamzap, I have about 20-30 buttons? I then have 20-30 macros or whatever the number is.
6) Look in the left hand pane - this logs activity from the system and your remote. If your remote is being recognized properly - start pressing buttons. If you press a "1", you'll see the left pane respond with a recognized "Snapstream.1" or something like that. Press all the buttons on your remote to create a "library". YOu can now drag and drop these buttons into the right pane where you have a corresponding macro/event.
7) Define the macro/events accordingly. You'll have to play around with this configuration just a little bit to get everything right. don't worry it's simple. i 'm just too tired to spell it out here. (remember slingplayer can also operate by keyboard strokes ; e.g. m = tivo menu)
8) Test your newly customized buttons as you create them.
That's all!!! Took me about an hour or less to customize every button!! One warning - once you disable streamzap, you must redefine ALL the buttons! It doesn't remember any buttons from the streamzap service, so you are starting from scratch.
It's not as hard as it seems - just get your hands dirty, spend an hour, and you're good to go.
(note 2: this should work with firefly too, but i haven't done it this way).
GOOD LUCK!
One final note: While snapstream services are now "disabled" and missing from the system tray now, make sure your EventGhost system tray icon is there - it'd be a great idea to select the option in EventGhost to have it startup as a system service so it's always there in the system tray.
If you look at your system tray after following the above steps, you should see a right green arrow representing EventGhost system service (remember you don't need snapstream's "red' icon anymore).
Responding to the original post, there is no need (at this point) for SlingMedia to talk to SnapStream and vice-versa.... this solution will do... (although I admit - it would be nice to be able to buy a ready-made customized remote).

I am wondering if someone could tell me when I program the buttons and punch "10" the slingplayer only goes to channel 1. I am using a streamzap remote and eventghost.
