Hello, I'm looking for a 400/500 disc dvd player that i can plug into my computer and control what disc is playing. So I could label and change the disc right from my pc. Anyone know of one?

This reminds me. Jeremy, any luck on adding Sony DVD Mode 2 and Mode 3 to the remote codes. We've talked about this in the past. I have three Sony DVD 400 disc changers each set to one of the three modes and I would love to be able to control all three with my sling---that would be 1200 DVDs at my fingertips.

I'm also anxiously awaiting the mode 2 and mode 3 Sony DVD codes! My second Slingbox will remain pretty much unused until this is implemented.

I'm still enjoying my first one, though...

Thanks for the reminder on the Sony remote - can one of you shoot me a quick email to discuss this a bit further?

Best,
Jeremy

I am a few clicks away from ordering 3 of these Sony DVD changers as well and look forward to the ability to control all three from the slingbox. I just received my slingbox and hooked it up to one of my Directv Tivos a few hours ago, works great on my home network, I will try it tomorrow from my office. I am curious, you obviously cannot daisy chain 3 of these so you would need some sort of video switch, what are you using for this and can the slingbox control the video switch as well?

Scott, I am using the Radio Shack solution too. it works great (and will work even better when I have codes for Modes 2 and 3).

Jeremy, I will send you an e-mail.

Thanks for the info. I ordered 3 of the Sony 400 disc changers and another slingbox last night. I also won an Ebay auction for an older a/v switch they use to sell that is really nice (I have 2 in use already) not sure why they quit making it, it is a 6 in 2 out switch and has composite, svideo, optical and can switch between and convert any of them and it will learn any remote code to use to switch sources. Ebay # is 5836999411 if anyone wants to see a picture of it, I think there are some more up on Ebay for sale.

I have never really used these ir-blasters before, would it be better to buy more of them and chain them together (how many can the slinbox run? and where is the best place to buy them?) or use some sort of repeter like the x10 little pyramid things to broadcast to all the devices at the same time?

Jeremy, did you receive the e-mail I sent last week regarding the Sony DVD player? If you need any additional information regarding the player, remotes, etc., I'd be more than happy to oblige.

Just to follow up on the message I posted a couple back about the Radio Shack switch, I stopped into a local Radio Shack and they still had the older 4 in 2 out video switch that can learn any remote to use to switch (instead of sensing power on/off like the newer ones do that would prevent it being used for DVR's) The 4 in 2 out model doesn't have optical inputs/outputs, but it will convert svideo/composite as far as I know. The price was only about $25 also. Not sure what the model number is on it, I can look it up if someone wants it.

Just so it isn't forgotten, I thought I would revive the matter of adding remote codes for modes 2 and 3 Sony DVD players. I know a lot's going on at Sling these days, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to to stir the coals every once in a while.

If you already have the remote control for the system, i think matt is editing my article on creating your own remote control codes via an ir learning remote - if anyone would like the pre-edit version of the document, then please feel free to email me on mail@lommage.co.uk

My website featuring more slingbox help is at www.butkus.co.uk

I am new to the Sling Communitty. How often are there new devise or remote definition placed in the Sling Player? I just bought a new Sony 400 DVD changer the DVP-CX995V. I can power the unite On and Off, and play a dvd, but I cannot switch to the next ot previous disk.

I'm with davidg. I am planning to buy the DVP-CX995V, however, I need to be sure I can operate it with the SlingBox first. Please could we get the remote codes? Please, please. I just had a WebChat with Sony and it wasn't encouraging as to compatiblity with codes Sling currently supports.

CoolTel,
I got it to work, but by using the one of the other remote configureation. It was the othe DVP controls. Play, Pause, Stop, Step Forward, and Step Back seem to work. What I do not like about it I have to bring up the menu to select a disk.
Thanks
DG

DavidG, Thanks! I now have a unit on order.

andyBBB, Thanks for the article on remote controls. It looks totally doable and I will be getting the remote unit when the guy comes back from vacation in April or Radio Shack if they have. It's always good to have the capability.

Thanks again to both of you.

After much trial-and-error I am now controlling by SONY DVP-CX875P disk changer using the following setup sequence in the wizard
Television Source: DVD Player
Device Brand: Sony
Device Model: other (even though the 875 is listed, do not use it)
Control Code Setup: Code 4

This gives you control over most of the features of the player, ESPECIALLY navigation to the "folder" to select a disk (Use the remote drop-down menu on the slingplayer to select "Custom 11"). There are many other useful features, but you'll have to remember which "Custom" means what.

Having this undocumented and having to go to the dropdown is annoying, and why this isn't in the standard remote is anyone's guess, but at least this works.

HELLO, Sling are you listening? There are those of us as listed above who have Sony DVP-CX995V players. In your newest version, you supported other of the Sony multi-disk players, however, left us out. Why???? Would really like to operate the change disk functions without changing the configuration back & forth between remotes.

I know this thread is a year old, but it still seems to be an issue.  I have a Sony single disk player and a Sony 400 disk player.  The single disk can only use DVD Mode 1, so I have the 400 disk player set to Mode 2.  Unfortunately, I cannot find a Sony IR control code that works this mode [well] for Sling.  Other 5 offers some level of control, but it is very limited and I cannot find a way to change disks at all.

Any chance of getting support for the Sony DVPCX995V 400-Disc DVD Mega Changer/Playe?  Folks appear to have been asking for well over a year.

You know, Logitech programmable remotes have a ton of remote codes available with specific device awarenenes.  Any chance you can license their database?

I figure I'll try to keep this post going.  I'm also waiting for the remote for the DVPCX995V, dealing with a bunch of work arounds found on this site.  I wonder if we can get a listing of people who are still looking for this. Login and leave a post if you are unhappy with your workaround.  Mofojuju is #1 and I make #2.
