Hey,

i couldnt bear to wait any longer, i purchased one, i really needed to set it up over christmas cos i know no one would be able to in my household would / could do it.

Jeremy, can you confirm / deny if the remote codes for Sky box will be on US firmware? (sky remote controls seem to work as standard with ALL sky box brands so im hoping my box will be supported as default, it all depends if the sky box remote codes are already on the US firmware, please say its so!!!!).

AHHH im so excited :D

I was able to use the process described here: http://www.slingcommunity.com/article... to set up and control my Sky+ box, I'd imagine the process will also work to control a regular Sky box (provided you can find the correct IR code set)

Hey Hausofmaus,

Thats great news. I think the sky+ and sky ir codes are the same (except regular sky doesnt have the recording buttons) - i think i remember trying the sky+ remote on my sky box a while back and it works, (and vice versa). The sky remote is pretty standard between actual sky boxes? (IR Code wise at least)

ps, haus, did you have to buy PAL to NTSC converter hardware? or did it work straight out of the box with coax cables (or scart to coax cable)?

Thanks

I've got a US one and it works perfectly here in Australia (also a PAL country). No need for conversion - you just can't use the internal tuner.

Sky boxes seem to be pretty well supported, but by using the JP1 and RM tools, I was able to build support for a PVR that was previously unsupported - the Strong 5390 PVR.

Thats great news scott, im v. glad i havent shot myself in the foot with IR controls.

I got an email today saying it wont be arriving till the first week of january, i will be gutted if the PAL version is released before i get mine.

Can the slingbox be set up from a remote location (via the slingplayer / webbrowser) - at this rate i got a feeling i will be moving back to uni before it arrives :(

Andrew

The cost of importing a slingbox has been extortionate - im getting hit for 40£ (80$) for VAT and handling now as well - in total its cost me 389.00$ just to get it to the UK and the extra bits (like us to uk plug adapter) - jesus, im gonna be so pissed off if slingmedia release the PAL UK version in the first week of the new year, there not going to have a very happy camper here lol. - if they do, will i be allowed to get an exchange? LOL

I don't think the PAL version is that close. Even if it is announced at CES, doesn't mean that it will be instantly available in your market. It's probably going to take at least 3 months.

Regarding the setup question, you're probably behind a NAT router, right? If so, you'll need to set it up at home.

What I did was allow it to get a public IP address from the router's DHCP server when it was plugged in. Theoretically, I could have set it up remotely (although, not done a firmware upgrade).

I brought mine back in my luggage - but it was a very expensive trip what with the flight, conference fees, hotel fees, etc.

Well, i have a network at home, and ive got TightVNC installed on those computers, so i can set up everything remotely via that. Its only the hardware which will be a problem, im sure i can talk my father through it.
